Diesel Oil Choice

I was wondering what is the best diesel oil (not synthetic) I can use in my 7.3 Power Stroke? I presently use the MotorCraft Power Stroke 15w40. There are many choices ie: Valvoline Blue, Delo, Delvac, Super Tech, QS, Rotella.

I have run Delo, Delvac, and Rotella in both gas and diesel engines. I'll tell you that you can't go wrong with any of them...

Pennzoil Longlife 15w40 is a good choice.

The Motorcraft oil is good oil. Made by Connoco I believe.

All are fine, but for this application, I believe Delvac 1300S is the best (great base oil and great additive package).

Is 15w40, with a SL rating, limited to the same maximum phosphorus levels as the PCEO viscosities like 5w30 and 10w30? Is this max 1000 ppm?

Valvoline Premium Blue has a good bit of boron and moly, and Valvoline claims Premium Blue uses a group II base stock. But PB does not receive the same praise as Pennzoil LL, which has a similar additive level. What factors contribute to Valvoline's relatively poor reputation on this forum?

when combined with a CI-4 rating the SL doesn't limit the phosphorous. Delo has around 1400 ppm of it as well as about 1550 zinc.

Not enough mention of Valvoline's blue oils on here--most of us know little enough about them nor has seen used oil analses of those oils.

The 1000 ppm phosphorus limit is established in ILSAC GF-3, and that is only for the Energy Conserving xW-30 oils. API-SL oils that are not ILSAC GF-3 can have more P.
