So let me ask a question about OEM Engine Specs and all the different "Diesel" oils out there.

This wasn't the case years ago, but today's 2026 built diesels all have about the same equipment.... DPF's, requirement of DEF, etc. etc....

So if a Cummins engine with all the EPA crap on it is happy with Delvac.... Why is that any different than a Mercedes Sprinter diesel engine, which seems to require hard to find "Euro" oils? Will that Sprinter Engine fail or its DPS plug up because someone pours in modern day Delvac.... or Rotella, etc...???

Back when I first got my Ram EcoDiesel (which is going on 12 years old and running tip-top), FCA required Euro Diesel Oil in the 5w30 weight. Then after 5 years of ownership, FCA issued a service bulletin that oils like 5w40 Rotella were just fine for my Italian made engine. They did a flip-flop.... And I have been pouring in Rotella without a single issue for the past 7 years.... Emissions haven't died and the engine hasn't blown up.

Would a 2015 Audi, 3.0L Diesel auto.... have issues with today's Delvac 10w30 or Rotella T6 10w30?

I don't believe the audi diesels are as terrible sludge makers like the audiVW gasses.
Euro diesels are used to euro diesel oil which has crazy detergent levels compared to US oil. I believe the highest one i remember seeing a test for was Castrol euro diesel oil and having something like 4,400ppm of Ca.
Might have to change the oil a little more often using US oil.
If it's a known sludge maker then probably better stick to 3000 to 4000 mile oci with rotella or delvac.

MB have always allowed 228.3(x) ; 228.5(x) oils in their small displacement diesels but people usually overlook this.
Delvac 1 ESP CK-4 5w-40 is not 228.51 or 228.52 certified because they both demand lower P levels (800ppm max.)

Delvac 1 Advanced Synthetic 5w-30 is 228.51; 228.52 certified :

...and makes it a great candidate for all DPF-equipped MB diesels (except ,nominally, for some om642equipped vehicles after 2017 that targeted...mo' fuel economy) that call for 229.51 or 229.52 oils. Or the 3.0tdi.

Oil "X" with lower SAPS levels does not automatically bring longer life for the aftertreatment equipment. So yes,no surprises that they survive on oils with SAPS levels that may look scary on paper.

I may be wrong but the 3.0tdi initially called for oils that had a pretty high limit on SA (1.5%SA,no cap on P) ,but needed to pass the vw DPF test. They seem to have tightened the SA and P limit only recently (1% SA and 900ppm P).
