Just done yearly replace the furnace filter yesterday, it wasn't very dirty but it had been used the whole last winter and once a year replacement is getting money worth out of the filter.

Started the pilot and ready to turn on the furnace when the inside temperature drops to below 60F in the evening. It seems like we may have to turn the heater earlier than normal. Previous years, the heater wasn't on until after Thanksgiving, but it seems we may have cooler temperature earlier this year.

What a Californian perspective!

Lots of folks in the US had snow last month...like this most recent blizzard in the Northeast...I am pretty sure those folks had the heat on...likely a couple months ago...

Even in Virginia Beach (note the "beach" part...), we have had the heat on since September...

Last Two Winters here in the Southeast have been colder than normal with record or near records set many days.

We have a heat pump and it may see some run time by the end of the month??

I turned the furnace on a couple of weeks ago for the first time, when it got down to 30 degrees overnight one night. But we're now in quite the warm spell, it has been in the high 50s/low 60s for the past few days, and even overnight temps have been warm (it was 50 this morning at 6am!)

I also just used the furnace for the first time; but my home is pretty energy efficient and does not loose heat very quickly in the winter.

I started the pilot light two weeks or so ago and first ran the furnace about a week ago.

In California weather depends on where you live. Where I live there are flocks of feral parrots and palm trees, but two nights ago I drove the Angeles Crest Highway. I left home at 9:20 PM and got back about three hours later. I drove maybe 180 total round trip miles, got up to about 7900 feet, and the temperature there was 23 degrees F. I have these new Hankook tires and they drive on the ice pretty good. It was gorgeous; all that snow in the bright moonlight and the lights of Palmdale, Lancaster, Victorville, and Edwards AFB were brilliant from about 30 to 50 miles away.

Chris, when I was at Dawson Saddle I could see those cement plants at Oro Grande right near where you live. They light them up at night like a Christmas tree.

I drove over for lunch with a friend to your neck of the woods & we ate at the Outpost @ Hwy. 395 and Interstate 15; it is still as good as back in days of yore.

Been on for over a month. I absolutely refused to turn it on in September, although I came close. Temps never dipped below 60 inside, and that's my breaking point.

Unfortunately, I didn't make it very far into October before it went on......

Out here since October 5 we have had three winter storms, bringing cold rain and mountain snow. The most recent one was last night. The Angeles Crest Highway now has a chain requirement and soon will be closed for the whole winter season between Big Pines and Islip Saddle. These storms are great - not too strong and not a deluge like we sometimes get.

This man and woman I know drove to Big Bear Lake to introduce their Labrador puppy to snow. The puppy loved it, but they say he isn't ten pounds any more, he is more like 70. It is 32 degrees at Big Bear right now and the low tonight will be 17.

They were lucky that water dog did not jump right in the lake. They said they could tell he was thinking about it.

I'm in Southern Riverside County just off I-15 - I turned the heater on last Sunday for the first time. It does seem a little early for us. The lows have been in the upper 30's low 40's here.

About 2 weeks now. We went as long as we could on our little space heater in the bedroom at night, but it wasn't cutting it now that the daytime temperatures aren't warming up the house enough.

Got an electric pilot. Wife was freezing this weekend so I was turning on the heater and set it to 70F (room temp at 62F in the morning) in the early morning and evening before sleep.

Saturday a week ago.
It has been pleasant during the day, but cold overnight.
When the house stays below sixty after a sunny day, it's time for heat, usually around the end of October.
