Hey I'm always Trying to be Very Clean when I do Plugs - as I have seem all carbon or Grit or Debris that somehow Finds it's way
Down around Spark Plugs

Generally will Always wait for Plug Change - even If Do - Wait till Oil Needs Changing . .

I Use a Nickle Base Grease just Dab in center - biased - Toward Top . .

I Always try to Vacuum If Possible - or - Air Pressure after 1/2 Backed Out - Vac is Best ..

Note Marks on Insulator & Tips

What I have come to Note on Many Models of Cars & Trucks - 1 Thing that Owners Might Forget or
Just Quietly Fall Asleep on are Coils & Coil Packs . .

Like back in Day when cars all came with Lousy Brakes , Shocks, Wiper Blades ..

Coil Packs Lasted 150K ~ This Is NO Longer Case ~ Been an On Going Issue for some Time Now ..

Many have Not Woken Up to Very Slow Degrading of Coil Packs

What Happens is Super Slow Motion - Weaker Coil - leads to More Fuel in Oil , More Carbon Build Up
Less MPG slightly - so - Oily Carbon Deposits End up in Cat or Cylinder Wall - Piston Ring Interface . .

Rings could even Stick

I've Seen Fires Inside Catalytic convertors , Seen LSPI , Early Fuel Dilution = Why ~ Spark just Isn't Hot & Large & Fast ..

It becomes Weak , Slow Eff5 Drops way off ..

Changed out Coil Packs at 67K & 99K . . Both Perked right up & Better MPG ..

Old wives tale. If there was a legitimate ignition issue, your theory can be validated with information from the misfire counters and a check engine light.

NO - Coil Packs Just do Not Perform as Designed as Cost of Copper Windings Soars ..
Vendors get Cheaper - But Mostly do to Fact They are Mounted on
Very Hot - Super Tuned Motors & most of those Now have Turbo's

Heat is Breaking Coil packs down Sooner this Sneaks Up on Owners & It Bits Hard in Pocket Book ..

Eff% on this Newer Engines Pushed to Max , when Max isn't Quite there by just Little Bit Oily Carbon Build up in Cat

Then Please Explain Why ? $3500 Dollar Cats catch Fire inside to Point of - Melting Welds Off !
.. Need Replacing on 3-4 yr Old Models
40K to 90K = Gone ..

One would Think and Yes Your Able to ~ Gap Down ~- which will Give You a Hot Stronger Gap - Spark Agree

But for How Long - Engines now Cost in Range of 12K to 18K to Replace

Not to Mention there are Higher Performance Coil Packs that Perform Better then OEM for $115 Bucks . .
Those are Heavier & Use a Higher Rated Temp. Epoxy ! ( Jump .065 ) Run Plugs for 120K

This has Become an Attempt by all Vendors Produce Coil Packs to Raise Cost to Auto Manufacturing ..

Here You'll see Weight of Extra Windings - Primary & Secondary Windings in Coil Packs are Extremely Thin ..
so Little Weight = 18ft that is Equal Whole Lot more Windings inside !

7.5 VS 7.8.webp
