Hi, I been using M1-110 from Mobil 1. I recently purchased mobil 1 oil filter with the five quart deal from AAP. It was shipped to my house yesterday.

The first thing I noticed was the metal inner core was different my from my previous model M1-110 Mobil 1 filter.

I will post up picture of the difference. I am wondering what was the reason for the change?

My guess is the center tube no longer goes the entire length of the filter, as seen on many purolators.

That doesn't make sense ... can you add some details on the center tube not going the length of the media?

I doubt it went to ecore, but a ecore with a silicone adbv would be cool.

Even purolator is skimping on parts, haha. Maybee the media can implode through that opening, OH NO!

Looks like a manufacturing defect to me. I've never seen any Purolators I've looked at have the center tube as shown in the photo.

That thread is 5 years old
... maybe there was a manufacturing issue back when the "short center tube" issue was discussed.

It is not a defect, please read the thread. There are many other threads to view if you still believe it is a defect.

"Reply from Purolator:

The short centertube in the tall 65 mm filter was a result of part consolidation initiatives.. The tall 65 mm filter simply now uses the centertube from the short 65 mm filter thus eliminating a component part. This change was made about 1 1/2 years ago.

This design was tested extensively before the change was made and the performance of the filter does not suffer in anyway.

I read the thread, and here is a quote from it:
"The Purolator 14610 for Honda also has a short tube. There is nothing to worry about if it has a shorter center tube."

I can tell you that the PL14610 does NOT have a short tube like the photo at this time. I just bought two PL14610s for my V6 (VQ35) Altima a few months ago and they have center tubes the entire length of the media - verified with my own eyes.

Looks like Purolator has backed off this design ... like I said, the linked thread is 5 years old.

Go someplace that sells Purolator oil filters and tell me if you can find any today that have a short center tube.

You are right SuperBusa. I went to advance auto parts, and could not find a single purolator with a short center tube. Maybe when Bosch bought out ArvinMeritor they nixed the design since they have deeper pockets? Who knows

I did take a look at a few M1-110 filters when I was there, and I think I discovered what the OP is talking about. One of the M1 filters I looked at had a traditional center tube, with small holes drilled in it. The other M1 filter had a louvered center tube, as seen in the image below.

The louvered center tube design is strong. Thanks for verifying the Purolators out there are not short center cored anymore.

I think Purolator or whoever makes the design decisions had second thoughts on a center tube that wasn't full length ... seemed like a lame idea right off the bat to me.

This is exactly what I noticed. I haven't gotten the chance to take a picture of it.
