Comparing the specs, gasket diameters appear to be slightly different between the two filters... make sure you check for leaks. Other than that, it should be fine.

Just to let you know, the filter will probably work just fine, but, if for some reason it comes off down the road or something else happens to it, WIX will not stand behind it. They only stand behind the filter number they recommend for the specific application. All filter manufactures are this way also. Parts clerks, got to love them.

If a filter screws on and seals, likely it will be OK. The biggest problem would be putting a filter without a bypass on an engine without a bypass. If the bypass pressure is wrong, you will be getting a different compromise between filtering and flow than was specified for your engine. However, the evidence runs against bypasses doing a lot. There is also efficiency and capacity, but they vary widely by brand. Chances are, the wrong Wix will do a better job than some other filters.

you will be fine! the 3.8L called for the 51085 (ph16) filter for almost 15 years, which by the way is a fram ph16 equivilant!

then around 07 they switched to a smaller filter 51348 also known as fram ph3614.

it is believed that they switched to smaller filters fleet wide because of the epa.

not only chrysler is doing this but so is gm,ford, purolator, champion labs etc...

also keep in mind alot of 3.8/3.3L caravan owners run the bigger ph8a or motorcraft fL1a because it is bigger than the above 2 filters and is the same price. mike

If the EPA had anything to do with it, that would probably be the reason. I would surely say that the move to cartridge filters ..or rather the return to them, is due to future disposal concerns.

for what its worth guys, my sisters geo tracker calls for the ph3614. my moms husband put a ph16 on it. when i went to change the oil, the gasket on the ph16 was seriously deformed. like maybe 20% of the gasket had contact with the block, as opposed to the 100% that is supposed to.

me either! they switched back and forth on the k-car motor also (2.2L and 2.5L) and they used the same two filters (mentioned above) on the k car motor . this is a pattern of engineers that can't make their minds up. what ever the reason, when ever they are changing between these two filters the block mounts for the filters are not changed at all! mike
