Did I screw up?

Hi. noticed my oil was 2 quarts low on a recent oil change. I was in the middle of nowhere pulling my 5th wheel and had a jug of Supertech 0w40 Euro oil.

I topped the oil and wanted to check if I'll be ok. I have Rotella 5w40 in it right now. Unsure why it was low on oil as the oil change ws about 2 months ago and I put in 13 quarts like I always do on my 2015 F350 6.7L diesel.

Oil is better than no oil but you had 11qt out of 13 and put in a 0w40 euro oil.

What spec does the owners manual recommend?

Oil is always better than no oil. You did what you needed to. Perhaps you're burning a bit more towing?

I agree with the others, a little Euro oil isn't going to hurt a thing. Might even be a little better than the Brotella! Except for soot handling. I'd be more concerned about the loss of the oil. Burning or more likely, leaking.

Did you not check the oil for two months? Or had you been checking the oil and it had been fine, and then suddenly was 2 quarts low? If you hadn't checked the oil for two months, yes I'd call that a screw up.

Adding oil when you need oil isn't a screw up, even if it's not perfect oil. If you were stuck in a Walmart oil aisle and told you had to top up your Powerstroke but weren't allowed to use HDEO, then a 0w40 euro oil is possibly the best substitution you could have chosen. Stuck on the side of the road, you definitely could have had worse options available to you.

I'd run it and not worry about it.

Alrighty, the PCEO in a Babymax thread got me thinking. Partly I'm bored, partly I'm genuinely curious.

Say someone has stock of a solid Euro Xw40 A3/B4, and HDEO just isn't available for whatever reason. Maybe they're too lazy to go to the store, or maybe it's the end of the world and they're sitting on 10,000 gallons of diesel fuel and a pile of Euro oil but no HDEO. Hypothetical, exact reason doesn't matter for the purpose of this exercise. Time to change oil in their Cummins/Powerstroke/Duramax.

Assume the engines are pre-emissions or deleted, high saps doesn't matter.

What would go...
