Because the C30 looks too much like a Gremlin to me. Saw one of these on the road for the first time today and had to do a double-take.

Ford bought Volvo's car division in 1999. And sold it to Geely in 2010.

Chrysler bought AMC in 1987.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not slamming it. The rear-end is not my favorite, but the car's proportions look like it would be zippy and fun to drive. It was just the angle of the rear window that struck me as Gremlin-esque.

AMC's were awesome - just different enough not to be a 'me too' car.

The Gremlin was a great little car. That said, I do like the C30, although I wouldn't say it's a modern Gremlin, it's too upscale.

The 'modern Gremlin' has to be the Chevy Aveo - very basic and traditional, and cheap!

not a c30 but i had an 83 240dl for 16 yrs, never gave me any trouble besides an airflow meter that went out but that was it, currently i have an 01 s80 which is my wifes car and since we've owned it's been pretty good, it needed a voltage regulator which there is a tsb for and currently we have a strut mount that is starting to clunk but that's not a big deal, both of these volvos i was rear ended in both times by honda accords both times i had a small dent in the rear bumper and both times the honda that hit me had to be towed away. as far as the amc i had a wagoneer with the 304 that ran forever and a 96 cherokee (not amc but used almost exclusively amc designs) and that was the best vehicle i ever owned, very little maintenance and i treated it very badly and it ran almost trouble free for 250k mi.

Sorry, I meant did you ever own an AMC vehicle. I was referring to the AMC 232 cast iron straight six

i addressed the amc's that i had owned in that post, and i had good luck with the ones that i had owned, i read some time ago (about the inline 6 in the cj5 and cj7) that they had issues do to unleaded gas even after they changed valve seats to be compatible. but you have to keep it in context, they haven't made anything since the 70's so it's all old technology and i had a friend who had an amc eagle which was a pile of [censored], but it was another car that was ahead of it's time, just had some issues.

Firstly, I take that the Gremlin reference is tongue-in-cheek

Truth is, the C30 took some styling cues from the P1800 ES

I must say that it is one great looking Volvo, as far as Volvos go. But I am embarassed to say that I acutally liked the looks of the Gremlin also. Pretty practical hatch for the early 70's.
