A friend of mine convinced his in-laws to finally change the timing belt on their 2008 accord and asked if I would be willing to do it for them. They bought this car new and haven't done much apart from change the oil along the way. After 100k miles and 18 years it was about due. Since they don't live in the same city as my friend and I, we tried to do everything we could while they were here. This included every fluid and rear pads+rotors with plans to do the fronts next time they are around.
The timing belt on the j35 in this accord was easier than I was expecting. All in all it took around 10 hours including parts store runs, brakes and fluids. We didn't run into any major hiccups apart from the dampener on the Idler taking an absurd amount of force to let us fit the new serpentine belt. I know that it is recommended to not go too far over miles or age on timing belts but the belt, pulleys and tensioner were immaculate coming out. I was shocked at how good the condition of the oe parts were. It was also good practice for when I'll have to do it in my pilot.
Parts used:
Aisin timing belt kit w/ water pump, pulleys and tensioner
kirkland 5w20 and wix filter
aisin dw-1 atf
shoppro honda psf
zerex blue coolant
shoppro dot 3
duralast gold rear rotors and pads
We were speeding through as much as we could so I did not get a ton of pictures
