Diaqueen/Diamond SP3 Replacement

Hi all,

First off, I am UK based so certain brands etc. are not available here.

Anyway.. Got an EVO 8 and the AYC/ACD fluid is low. The original is the Diaqueen/Diamond SP3 fluid however, i cant seem to source it.

On the Cap it says ATF SP-III, but there is so many fluids out there, and I am unsure of the original viscosity, density etc.

Any recommendations?

ATF SP-III is essentially the old DEXRON-III. That's no longer a valid license and has been superseded by DEXRON-VI. You can still find "DEXRON-III like" fluids that would be suitable, or just buy DEXRON-VI which is superior in every way.

Or just buy a universal fluid such as Maxlife which is what I would do. This says it is suitable for SP-III applications and it will work fine. SP-III is not a special fluid.

I believe eneos type SP is the replacement to it. But that's the differential not a transmission and those tend to be less fussy and I imagine others have used something different without issues that may be labeled as universal and state sp 3. Check other forums like this mitsubishi one perhaps.

Amsoil ATF or Redline D4 ATF are the two most used non-OEM options.

EDIT: Although I would probably ask around the FB Evo pages or forums to see if anyone in the UK has a stash of DQ ATF SP3 first. I think evolutionm is still active.

Well if everyone has always known that besides me, then Maxlife is still a suitable substitute per Valvoline.

Universal fluid is always a lazy answer, but if that's the hill you insist on dying on, the choice is yours.

SP-lll and Dextron lll are not the same compatible fluids.

Idemitsu makes a sp-III , that's what I used for drain and fills in my 05 sportage when I had it. They apparently had sourced mitsubishi transmissions back then.

The Idemitsu fluid is not licensed SP-III either, so there's no guarantee it is the same as the OEM fluid.

Correct. Asian manufacturers do not license their fluids. Either you buy actual SP-III fluid from the dealer or it is all "suitable for".

It won't say approval. It will likely say "suitable for".

I ended up going for Motul Multi ATF. Only reason being on 2 different websites in uk who specialise in Japanese / Evolution car parts, that was the fluid they had listed so surely it can't be too bad ..

Although I totally forgot to ask the dealer if they do it.. should have tried that first
