We just had a transmission flush done on our 07 Impala. It's about a pint low. Do you guys think a pint of Dexron III for top off would hurt things?

I would not use Dexron III to top off Dexron IV, I rather drive the car with 1 pint low until getting Dexron IV to top off, than mixing two different fluids.

Mixing engine oils is okay, mixing ATF is another story.

Are you sure they flushed it with DexronVI?
Are you sure that you are checking the ATF correctly?

If it was a full synth dexIII, sure. If not, buy a quart of DexronVI. $4 for supertech D6 won't kill your budget.

Yes, they flushed it and yes, I checked it hot after selecting each gear, waiting 5 minutes, and idling the engine while checking the fluid level.

I just got back from the store with Dexron VI to top off with.

But are you sure they flushed it with Dexron VI? I took my 07 GMC Sierra to EZ Lube for a flush and specifically asked if they had Dexron VI, and they assured me they did. I went out to check only to find them pouring M1 Mercon in! They claimed when they added a small bottle of additive ( I don't recall the name of additive, some small no-name co.) it was better than Dexron VI. I demanded the correct fluid only to find they didn't even have it, and had to wait 2 hours while they went off to an auto parts store to get some. I went home and flushed it myself, as I had no faith in what they did or how much Mercon remained. I have heard horror stories about quick lube places, but thought I was immune by proactively questioning the product they used and watching them. What p o'd me the most was their arrogant attitude to question their practices, they insisted even their supervisor said Mercon with their secret additive was appropriate.
