This actually describes my bmw.

Even here, if the other specs the vehicle calls for are compatible. The Castrol lube selector recommends Edge 5w30 dexos2 (which is also API SN) as a suitable lube for my G37, since that calls for 5w30 in SM or newer, not necessarily GF-4 or newer, though.

Howdy, neighbor! I'm an Ixquicker as well.

To those who say to let me google that for you.

So when we have a question we google it which leads us to BITOG. And if we encounter your type, we go to BITOG which leads us to Google.

Seriously, why even get out of bed in the morning?

No need to call people names for pointing out the answer to the aforementioned question was instantly available via a search engine rather than waiting for someone else to answer/use the same search engine to find the info then post it.

One of the many reasons I'm rarely here anymore. Back to hibernation I suppose.

He asked what is the difference between Dexos. He did not ask where he can find data on the difference between the two certs. So you could have simply not hit the Submit/post button and contributed to clogging up the process of progress. But you want your voice heard huh.

So QP googles it and pastes it here. He's a gentleman.

I paste the link to it. I'm a jerk.

Got it.

Nice 35 minute hibernation!

I want to also add that if "Google it" was the answer to everything, there would be no need for this forum to exist. A lot of stuff on Google is erroneous or written in long, technical terms. It is always good to have a discussion forum that cuts to the chase.

As for the guy who thought I needed a lesson as to how to look stuff up on Google, I have been on the Internet for well over twenty years.

It is sort of like calling a tow truck and saying that your car does not start. And having the tow guy snidely say "Did you try putting the key in the ignition?" At least you then know what tow service not to deal with, because a person like that has an undercurrent of hostility in his personality.

That sort of makes me want to not post on this board any more. I have been here since 2011, but can see why members drift away.

Are you the same guy who didn't flinch at having to do a field rebuild on an old Civic just to get it to pass CA emissions?
Why would a savvy BMW owner flinch at having to do the maintenance and repairs required?

http://www.centerforqa.com/dexos-brand1/

^ links to a ginormous list of dexos1 brands, with such notable brand names as "Big Red Oil Products Full Synthetic," "Great Wall Ultra Golden S52-1," "Hoosier Penn," and "Royal Purple High Performance Motor Oil."

Judging by the number of Dexos1 approved oils, it must not be that difficult or expensive to get a Dexos1 approval.

So, again, why is Amsoil absent from this list?

They have decided that it is not in their best business interest to do so, or it will not pass for some reason. One or the other.
