The 1993 Grand cherokee was produced for half a year with the AW4 AT before chyrsler started using their corporate trans. It specs Dex II.

Lifepsan of this trans is unknown. I suspect it's a rebuild as a pan drop revealed a pristine filter, but BIG chunks of metal in a trans that drives great.

Anyway, did 1 drain fill when I bought the car 14000 miles ago (maxlife). another 7000 miles ago (maxlife). Figuring out then that it probably didn't need the thicker valvoline fluid, I then did a 3rd just recently with castrol Dex VI.

Normal driving-- Shifts lag less, engage more quickly, without bumping, loping or flaring. There does seem to be more "give" in rpm until the TC locks up. Under hard acceleration, however, the shifts are a bit softer than before.

Anyway, I like the fluid. overall, the transmission feels more intuitive, warm and cold, with it.

I would have used the Valvoline max-life Dexron IIE/Mercon fluid in that older AW-4.The newer Dex VI is a different mix all-together.
