Well they back speced it to all their dex3 transmissions. So why not, a ps system us about as simple as it gets. It doesn't care about friction modifiers that an automatic transmission needs.
FWIW I use the Carquest or NAPA branded quarts of power steering fluid to replace via turkey baster method once every 25K or so miles. Seems to work well.
GM told me that because of blowing/leaking pressure hoses in winter. It's so common here that when I called to see if they had a hose, the parts guy said he didn't even need to look up the part number.
I've been running Valvoline Max Life with no issues. No leaks. No noise. Before Max life I've changed out two hoses.
Max life is way cheaper than GM synthetic ps fluid.
Using MaxLife Dex VI in a power steering pump would be a way to be able to use a fully synthetic fluid over the cheap power steering fluids that cost about the same as MaxLife.
