I was in Walmart yesterday and I noticed they have Super Tech DEXV1. I normally use mobil 1 atf, which covers every spec known to man, I think. But I was informed that all DexVI is synthetic and DEXVI is DEXVI regardless of the brand, according to this BMW tech that I spoke to. So am I to assume that I can use this in my 10 yr old BMW X5? Not that I would but $4.29/qt is better than $9.00/qt for the M1. I do a drain and fill times 3 every 50,000 miles so I get about 90% of the old ATF out of the trans. I think that is better than waiting a lifetime to have a flush and fill.

Why change now and go with something that is inferior to Mobil 1 ATF? Spend the extra money and know for sure that your tranny is protected...

Im not a big Mobil1 fan but cannot deny that they are good products. If i were to move away from Mobil1, I would be looking at a GM approved DEXVI. In the past I have used Valvoline fully synth DEXVI. There is also Valvoline maxlife which can be had at almost the same price as supertec. It might be 10 yr old, but its a nice machine, that X5....look after that tranny and you wont feel $ pain when it dies on you....put good in to get good out...its worth it! this of course is just my opinion, its up to you!

Personally these one oil fits all i won't use... If it calls for dexron 3 use dexron 3 if it calls for mercon 5 use nercon 5 if it calls for dexVI use it... Use what the company that made the transmission tells you to do unless something supercedes the original.. I tell my customers when we rebuild their engines to use the oil weight it was designed for. I am not a transmission expert but when my brother had his trans shop that was his thoughts.

Dexron 6 is suppose to replace Dexron 3. I don't think GM is licensing the Dexron III name anymore, so no tranny fluid can say it is Dexron III on the bottle. The can say Dexron III "compatible", but they can't say its Dexron III. I know that sounds confusing. Dexron VI has a minimal standard. Some Dexron 6 fluid is better than others. I use Walmart Dex 6 in my GM 2001 4L60E tranny and don't have any problems. I figure it is better than the old Dexron 3 it replaced. I read somewhere on this board that Walmart Dexron 6 might be a semi synthetic.

Yep...ST's Dex VI is a semi-syn. Most all are a syn blend but Valvoline's full syn. All will protect just fine....and fresh fluid is anyways good...

Who make the Walmart Super-tech Dextron VI ? I checked the bottle it has a Dextron VI license number. I also went on the GM Dextron approved website and they have Super Tech listed as an approved lubricant.
