I also sent Phil a PM about becoming a sponsor a few months ago. He said he was impressed with the forum here, particularly the constant traffic it sees. Not sure what happened after that.

He runs a good business that does stellar work, probably the best on the entire east coast. Being an able body I could never justify the cost, however I do like his online store very much, they carry the best stuff, and now they put lollipops in the box when I order.

Phil offers more personalized service than any of the other sellers. He personally responds to most e-mails, and does so very quickly and at all hours of the day.

His store selection is a bit limited compared to other vendors but that’s understandable.

My main concern about him and some other well-recognized detailers is that their advice is not always independent. As you can see from many of Phil’s recent write-ups (including this one), he has pretty much gone on the Sonax bandwagon. While Sonax products may be good, I suspect that he was a tester for them at some point. I have seen other detailers suddenly being using almost all of the products from a single line-up overnight, and it raises serious questions IMO.

Anyway, while I am not trying to question his integrity, when someone may be indirectly working with a product manufacturer, can you trust their advice to be truly independent?

If you read some of the other detailing forums, the big vendors will never outright say one product is better than another. They will give the pros and cons for each, and tell you who the target audience is...so yeah, I see what you're getting at.

I understand what you're saying Critic and it's a good point, but overall I think Phil is pretty fair. While a plurality of products he uses in this particular detail are Sonax he does tend to switch it up fairly often (at least relative to the ones he posts).
His store may not have the biggest selection but I think it's a case of quality over quantity in the case of DD.

Those are swirls. Clearcoats vary significantly in hardness. Softer clearcoats can get swirled up very easily. The domestics that you are used to owning, tend to be on the hard side.

This is why it is critical for proper wash procedures to be used.

Drive through car washes and neglect. Some Bimmer owners have far more money than common sense. I made good money getting the lease turn ins back into shape, most were horrid inside and out.
