Denny's acquired for $620 million and going private.

I fuzzed that out.

One early fall trip, it started to snow at 10,000 feet or so. We had at least a couple days over and down to where we were parked. So Cal boys. Although Boy Scouts who had done snow camping (-2°F once) we were hardly clothed for snow. We hustled our butts down in a day. Wet, cold. To this day, not sure how we had enough for a hotel room (?? maybe my rich buddy had a few $20's) but just made it and crashed out and woke up to a Denny's next door. Hot shower in the AM. I think I had 3 grand slams, and I think the waitress gave us extra toast.
I remember Denny’s had a lot of bargains in the 90s. The Grand Slam was cheap but I didn’t necessarily want it. I think my go to breakfast was biscuits and gravy with hash browns for maybe $4. And coffee was maybe $1.25 back then.

I do remember this one time my group went to the Edwards Air Force Base Open House in 1997. Not much around the base, and we ended up at the Denny’s in Mojave. Had to wait maybe 45 minutes and then longer after ordering. I think turkey and gravy. Not the greatest food, but after a day of being in sun it was quite welcome.

Denny's is not a place you plan on going to, but a place you end up at.
My wife and I hiked out of Havasu Falls a dozen years or so ago. I can’t remember if it was a Christmas Day or Eve, but it was one of them. It’s a 10 mile hike with around 1800 feet of elevation change and we got a late start so it was almost dark by the time we got back to our car, and even then it’s a 60 mile drive to the highway with any sort of services.

We drove through the dark looking for someplace to eat and came upon a Denny’s in some podunk town in rural Arizona. It was our first time ever eating at one, and after climbing out of that canyon we thought it was the finest meal we ever had!

It will go the red lobster/kmart way.

Private equity strips all value.. selling property then leasing back the restaurants + any other shenanigans they can come up with.

Then they roll it out the door(spin off) with no support and high burden(loans, lease back operating $$$$) so it can self destruct away from the $$$$$$$$$ they salvaged from its soon to be corpse.

They're mostly located on highways, clearly visible, and easily accessed. So the land sale thing is possible. I'm looking forward to the new owners rebranding in an attempt to bring in more business like Cracker Barrel. Then I'll enjoy idjuts posting it's going "woke" because they modernized. :ROFLMAO:

Our local Denny's is very nice- clean, good staff and the food is tasty. Went to one in Arizona and had teens running the place, with the result being incomplete orders with cold food. how it is still in business in beyond me.

Yup the big C helped mess such places up more than they were. The biggest issue with any eating places is the total lack of being clean with food. And yeah prices too, tips etc. I sure miss all the good eating places when I was a kid in the early 60's, back when they knew how to be sanitary and handle food properly. And well yeah it even tasted good back then with the good cooking oils used then. Miss those days.

Above post about teens running the place, yeah most all just pigs. And dirty unsanitary in the kitchen. And why I know many older folks that won't eat out because of it.

Nobody goes to Dennys.

You "end up at" Dennys.
Hopefully private capital will inject new life into Denny’s. Maybe it's just a cyclical thing with a downturn in diners? Micro brews, gourmet burgers, and BBQ restaurants have exploded in popularity over the last few years around me. When I moved to Colorado in 1991 my town had the usual fast food restaurants, one Vietnamese restaurant, a couple of Mexican restaurants and one Chinese restaurant and that's it. My town has three BBQ restaurants four or five Thai, three Vietnamese, six Chinese restaurants etc.

Management is everything. It can make or break a restaurant.
