A while back I posted needing advice about the Subaru piston slap issue and burning oil with smoke on start up. A few of you posted to try Defy and a moly additive. I can tell you unconditionally this worked! I switch up and went from 5w30 to 10w30 and added Liqui-Moly 2020. It's been 3 weeks of daily driving and the piston slap is all but gone, the smoking only happens slightly if I have to really get on the gas.

First thanks for the advice and second I am a believer in QS Defy now.

This is why this page is here and I try and send anyone that needs help to this site.

On the second round of defy in our Hyundai Santa fe. Stopped oil pan seep first time around and is slowing valve and timing cover seeps. Hoping the second round keeps slowing them. Defy is good stuff with a good additive package.

I'd like to get my hands on some Defy over here. There are no such things as high mileage oils over here, just stupidly thick 40w70 oils 'for high milage and worn engines'.
I can't even try Maxlife cause it only comes in 20w50 form here and I'm not putting that in my engine. It gets expensive buying a decent 30 weight and then adding oil saver or something similar to make your own hm oil.
I have found LM MoS2 additive has reduced oil consumption in my engine to absolute zero over the 8,000km interval though, but I'd like the seal conditioners too

I have noticed less in stock but hope they aren't pulling it. Havoline has been MIA in the last three Walmarts I have been in as well which is sad. Hopefully defy is just a good seller.

All the Walmarts here took all the 5 quart jugs away and only have a few quart bottles left, not even a full complete row.

This is good to hear. I have cold start piston slap in my Dakota's 4.7. I'm currently using Defy 10W-40, and it is the smoothest and most quiet oil I've used, but the piston slap persist. It is quieter, and doesn't last as long, so I may try some of the Liqui-Moly 2020 soon. Does this additive alter the oil's viscosity by any chance? I'd be ok if it made it slightly thicker, but I don't want to thin it any. I chose Defy because it's still a traditional, thick, non-ILSAC HM oil.

P.S. Didn't mean to hijack the thread. Honestly glad to hear this worked for you.

I sent quaker state an email about this. Hopefully they respond. I will report back what they say.
