Walmart is selling Honeywell Defense filters right beside the orange Fram EG's. They look exactly the same except for the "sure grip" on the EG's. But, they sell for $1.00 less. Are we getting an even crappier Fram filter or are they the same internally? Has anyone cut a Defense filter open yet?

I know I read somewhere on the 'net that Defense filters were made by FRAM...and since Honeywell now owns FRAM, I'd have to say that they are the same...FRAM also makes the "MileGuard" filters the local Jiffy Lube uses...(and NO, I don't bring my car there
)
BTW, how can you get "even crappier" than FRAM?

Defense is made by Honeywell CPG which also makes Fram. The basic number system is now the same, as in a PH8A is a DL8A. The media is not the same as is in the current Fram PH8A today, but is the same media that was in the Fram filter prior to the current formulation. The difference is in the efficiency of the media and the Fram branded media is superior to the Defense. That doesn't make Defense bad, just not up to the same level as Fram (but better than many equivalent priced filters).
