Decency Standards

If you don't believe the government has any business supporting NPR/PBS then do you think the government also has no business supporting museums, libraries, art galleries, symphonies? Does anything non commercial have value? Should the government help set standards and provide choice by at least supporting those things that the so called immoral, liberal, money driven media won't?

I'd say it speaks volumes as to the state of your mental health.

When we are talking about sex in the media, it is the exploitive, promiscuous, sick stuff. I think the minds of those that don't want it dumped on us and our children unexpectedly are far healthier that that of those that want it. Many people watching the Super Bowl thought they had changed the channel.

Give me a break, it was 1.4 seconds and you couldn't even tell what it was! The only people that had a chance to figure it out were the ones with TiVo, replaying it. If you are replaying it with children there, your children are already screwed, you don't need the gov't to save them!

If it wasn't blown-up and enhanced and put in the newspapers and internet, you wouldn't have a clue what it looked like.

Jason, It's time to really worry when John Ashcroft has a sheet put over a statue in the Justice Department because the statue is showing a breast. Doesn't it give you a warm feeling to know that that mentallity is out there enforcing the Patriot Act?

The whole Superbowl half time show was garbage. A couple of talentless rappers grabbing their crotch and then Janet Jackson trying to resurrect her career. It was awful from beginning to end, the worst half time show ever.

This is just the kind of trash that runs on MTV these days, so the network and the NFL knew what to expect when they asked MTV to provide the halftime entertainment.

Clear Channel is a business, and if they get enough irate listeners calling in to complain about Howard Stern or whoever, they will change the programming. In my opinion, they made a poor business decision because Howard gets a lot of listeners in just about every market he is in.

The FCC already monitors the show. Bleeps get inserted and occasionally they get fined. That was enough already. I don't listen to Howard, but I hope someone else picks up his show and broadcasts it in the same markets and they stomp Clear Channel. There is no freedom of speech issue here. Howard can find another outlet or buy a station and boradcast all day long if he wants to.

Keith.

Yes it was an awful show. And they should knew better, what football fan (over 16yrs old) give a rat's hind end about MTV? It is garbage, you are correct. But MTV and the network are one in the same. They are owned by the same company. So it's all just a bunch of BS anyway.
1.4 seconds of a blurry possible section of flesh shown. People complained, now MTV probably won't do anything with network TV anymore. Good. Move on, get over it. No need to start some insane zero-tolerance crusade.
I have zero tolorerance too....zero tolerance FOR zero tolerance. Give me a break.

When boobs are no longer allowed on TV, Ashcroft will no longer be allowed on TV.

Whats more "obscene"

Watching the victims of a Napalm strike and seeing there body tissue peel of there bone like some well done meat?

GI's dragged through the streets of somalia?

Watching a domestic incident on cops?

The horror of the WTC collapsing...people jumping....and lower manhattan looking a warzone?

Not only is the real work obscene but it is ugly and evil.

I do not know about you but I'd take a flash of a boobe anyday to another 9-11 image or what not.

And suddenly Janet Jackson boobes are Obscene? Obviously your perceptions are not prioritized.

The real filth is the real world not Janet's mammary glands.
