YES! TONS of these are being released into the wild.

That IP shows that it's out of Quebec Canada. Many of these SPAM messages are coming out of Slovakia & Eastern Europe/Russia.

I received one with a work and they did not even charge for the service.

Never never chase the link unless you know what's on the other end.

Ah those pesky Canadians. Another guy from Quebec with a stiffy for me. Some day I'll do a post about the first and only time I was ripped off in the Amsoil trade - by a cahookian, a case of gallons.... to a mail store. Boy was I stupid.... of course the authorities in Quebec are of no help, even though I gave them the address, etc

That's just the latest way to get around spam filters. E-cards are common enough that most spam filters won't catch them and it's very difficult to differentiate between legit ones and spam. If they can get you to click the link, thinking it's from a family member or friend, they can deliver the ad without it being filtered out.

Another use for spam mailings is to get a list of verified addresses.

Various methods for sender to verify a recipient actually exists at an address.

Forget the details but an embedded one-pixel pic can notify sender a recipient has opened the e-mail.

Along with stuff folks above wrote.

I remain, reveling in my lethargy, pondering healing molecules.

Guelph, Ontario the spam capital of the world.
Yes I get probably 4 to 8 of those card Emails each day.
Never opened one I just delete them.

Well, I read an instance of a company who sent out THOUSANDS of e-mails with PDF attachments and a web link to its employees. The link directed the users to a bogus website; by inspecting the proxy log it appeared a full 25% of employees decided to click on the link in the e-mail.

These are fundamentally social engineering issues not technology ones.
