What is not "safe" about it? As long as the tracking number says delivered that is all that matters. Anything that might happen to it after that is not your problem.

There are no "repercussions" per say from ebay, but it will be noted in your profile, and if it happens more than a few times there will be issues. If you were a top rated power seller like me, such things will prevent you from having that status for a full year. (which comes with various benefits) I wouldn't allow that to be put on my record for a stupid customer, but if you don't sell much it may not matter.

What hurts more? The lower ratings or losing the item you were selling. If you have a few days to sit on it, talk to the higher ups at eBay.

I personally smell fish. Very reasonable story, but all he had to do was update some info. The fact that he was able to pay, but not update is info tells me he had access to the account. Heck, he may even trying to rip his ex off...

I see no reason here you would lose the item you are selling. If you follow the rules and ship within the stated time to the given address with a tracking number, you are protected by ebay. Even if it turns out to be a scam, ebay foots the bill, not the seller.

Ebay has improved vastly over the years in stopping sellers from getting ripped off.

Example: I had somebody try to return something. I do not accept returns unless the item is damaged. They claimed it was damaged, when it wasn't, and then shipped back an empty box. They had a tracking number that showed it was delivered to me, so they got a refund. I called ebay and told them what happened, and I got a refund too. Ebay took the hit.

The seller is only protected if they ship to the confirmed shipping address that the buyer used when purchasing the item. An address provided by the buyer in an email or message does not count.

That's why he should ship to the confirmed address and be done with it. No low ratings. No lost item. No lost profit. No negative feedback allowed.

No negative feedback allowed?

What keeps the buyer from leaving a poor review because "The seller didn't ship the package correctly?"

Ebay will remove it if it is shipped within the proper guidelines. If they see no proper reason for a negative then it is always removed.

I did not know this. I figured it was dog eat dog when it came to reviewing.

That's the way it used to be. After getting sued gawd knows how many thousands of times, they've transitioned to being more helpful towards sellers.

It used to be people could sign up for 5-6 accounts or more, bid on your items, and then leave as many negatives as they wanted over and over and ebay wouldn't do anything about it. That won't fly anymore.
