Dealer Dilemma

The Dakota is due for some service soon that I don't plan on doing myself. The closest Dodge dealer and the one I purchased the Dak from closed, and truth be told, after the last couple of foul-ups I had with them, I don't know that I'd want to go back anyway. The next closest Dodge dealer is 30-40 minutes away and with their service hours, that basically means taking the day off of work.

However, the Chevy dealer near my house survived the cut(s) and I'm extremely happy with the work they've done for me on the Malibu. Anyone have experience taking a non-brand car to the dealer, and is this something I want to fool with or am I better off trying to find an independent garage?

I'd talk to some of the guys in back. Quite often you'll find someone who may have a Dak or worked on them....


This way you'll know for sure.

If a tech is experienced with them, I'd give it a try.

Otherwise keep looking.

They'll be fine. They work on the used cars that pass through and probably switch jobs often enough to pick up some factory training.

I went to a chevy dealer once to buy a door handle for my cutlass ciera (young and naive). Was ready to tell them I had a celebrity but they were able to order the part, no problem.

It will be fine so long as the mechanics are happy with the deal and the service doesn't require Chrysler only special tools which a GM dealer would prefer not to buy and GM only mechanics are less likely to already have.
