Dealer bulk

I had "free" changes too for the Santa Fe Sport 2.0T. The same thing happened at one dealership, they had no clue what oil they were using. I went to another dealership near my office and they only use Quaker State since Hyundai now has a partnership with Shell. Even so, they used QSGB since that's all the free changes covers (conventional oil) and to use QSUD would have cost me another $80. From that point on, although i know SM/GF-4 is all that's required, I supplied my own oil for the remaining free changes. The first dealership was a [censored] hole. The second one? Excellent service.

I now perform my own oil changes.

I had to take the 2012 Camry in for an oil change and brought some Pennzoil Platinum 0w20 in for them to use. Plus get a recall done. Used an oem oil filter and total cost was $13.84. I did have a coupon for $25 and I guess they subtracted the cost of the conventional oil. The normal cost is $60 for a full syn oil change.

I wonder how many times, people have brought in their own oil jugs and it never makes it into their crankcase.

My dealership uses Chevron bulk oils, and of course the HGMO for people that ask for it. We've had NAPA bulk oil a few times too due to suppliers being behind on orders or whatever reason. The parts manager may be the only one who actually knows the answer to what kind of oil they have, because sometimes it varies for different reasons.

99% of people that go in for an oil change don't care what goes in their car, all they know is the little wrench light is on and something needs to be done to it lol. A lot of my customers literally don't even know how to open their hood.

I have a free Blackstone UOA kit waiting to sample the oil they put in. So time will tell.

No issues, dealers have to use oil that meets the manufactures specifications.

The dealer bulk that Dodge dealers use is Pennzoil YB.

A lot of dealers like Toyota, Mercedes, and Porsche use synthetic now as there standard. Toyota has their own, and Mercedes and Porsche switch back and forth from Mobil 1 and Castrol.

Thanks in advance.

I would not trust anyone except my own eyes. Why not ask to look at the containers of oil they use?

The oil comes in 55 gallon barrels that is clearly marked and are in the shop someplace. If they tell you its restricted, everyone has a cell phone, ask them to take a photo of it.

Anything less is not acceptable.

As an example, I've delivered lots of this stuff to dealers. It's also what we use in our fleet at my work. They really don't know or care what "brand" it is, they just call their sales rep and say "I need some more 5W-30" (or whatever grade they need)

For me personally, unknown, untested oil, most dirt cheap stuff on the market, bring your own oil rather then use a dealers.

Buy the most dirt cheap national retail private label brand you can (which are great oils) and you will far exceed this stuff. Super Tech, Advance Auto, OReilly's any of them, most made by Warren, Citgo etc then Lube Tech.

The local ford/Mercury dealer near my house used PYB 5w20 conventional. I was there picking up parts and talked to the PPPC (oil company that distributes motor oils) and the guy showed me. At our shop I sample our MaxLife 5w30 every month to be sure

GM dealerships are virtually "forced" to use AC/Delco branded oils that meet DEXOS 1. I know of several dealerships in my area who only carry the 5w30 DEXOS. They don't even fool with the old conventional oils.

I don't believe any dealer will knowing put oil in you car that will in any way damage-regardless of the paranoia on this thread.

Most dealers will use oil that meet the minimums at the very least.

Happens more often than you think. Back in the days when GM used the GM4718 spec, there were plenty of LS1 powered camaros and even vettes getting regular conventional without the customer knowing. Brother bought an 01 SS camaro from original owner lady and she had "no idea" it required synthetic oil, LS1 camaros didnt have the Mobil 1 oil cap like the Corvette did either... All of her receipts from Chevy dealers showed oil changes as conventional 5W-30. Happened all the time at Cadillac dealers too. Requiring Dexos oil across the board was a smarter move IMO.

Z28 camaros had it happen a lot I have heard from family members that worked at chevy dealers. They look like a V6 camaro since they dont have the SS package. And some V6's had the Y87 package with RS appearance package and from the outside they look so similar its ridulous. Same exhaust as well. So yeah, it has and will still happen.

I would not use it in my vehicle , it is pumped in from a oil truck in to a 250 gal. tank , all that you see on the tank is brand label . who knows what it is .... every body is tryingto save a $. ford/quicklane advertises motorcraft oil, a requirement but without a lab test who knows what is in there.....
