Daytime television

Today I decided to have a lazy day and sit around doing absolutly nothing. I watched quite a bit of television and was completely shocked at what I saw. I first watched The Peoples Court. It wasn't too bad (The judge was good looking), the typical dog bite and you owe me $$$ cases. After that, Jerry Springer came on. I was amazed at what went on during this show, all of these people (with only half of their teeth if they are lucky) sleeping around and fighting with each other - and then going on TV and talking about it for everybody to see and hear. After this was another court show, Judge Mathis I think. Anyway, these cases were extremely stupid, almost a combination of the last two shows put together. Then came divorce court - two people who obviously failed out of elementary school due to their inability to grasp the english language were getting divorced because the wife didn't like the way the husband dressed - jeans and a t-shirt weren't acceptable.
Then came Judge Judy - this was almost a legit case similar to the Peoples Court.

All of this made me start to think about what people who are unemployed and on public assistance are watching during the day. These are the same people who are on these daytime shows. My concern is that these people are reproducing at a rate much higher than the average blue collar / white collar workers. Their children are brought up learning these same non-values that they have and that these people on TV are representing as "normal".

I figure, at this rate, there will be more uneducated, unemployed people than educated, employed people within the next three generations. This is a scary thought.

And why do you think these shows are on at a time when most people are out working?

Did you happen to notice all the get-out-of-debt/bankruptcy lawyer/junior college/cash payout commercials as well?

These court shows are "work". Read the fine print in the end credits; there's a stipend to show up and your payout to the other party comes out of that stipend. Since you can "win" around $3000 the stipend has to be at least that high. So if two buddies argue over a $100 cable bill they both go home loaded no matter who wins.

Incidentally, if you have an open and shut case, I doubt the producers would want to hear from you. They prefer drama and ignorance.

Hey, I watch daytime TV all the time, but I do it while at work.

I don't have cable so only the most popular stuff is broadcasted over the air. Normally this is a pretty good system where you get the best shows for free but man, the last couple years have been real stinkers. I don't turn the TV on unless I want to watch a movie or the news. There used to be some decent shows on that I could *almost* watch with my parents but nothing is family oriented these days. I can't stand coming in to work and hearing about the trailer park boys, etc. TV can be entertaining and non-offensive.

Truth is never hard to swallow for some when it doesn't follow the politically correct path. Medic was right on the money.....just deal with it.

The advertisers know and have researched who watches day-time T.V. Look at the commercials. Lots and lots of Lawyers convincing peeps they need to sue for unemployment claims, workmans comp, medical malpractice, etc.....they are talking to lazy losers (in a lot of cases)

Yes, you are right. I am stereotyping an entire group of people. Not all of these people meet the cryteria that I stated. However, wit my job and the low economy of the area that I live in, I meet up with alot of people who do fall into this catagory. These people have no job and are unable to work for some crazy reason (unable to deal with people, mental health issues, etc...). I honestly feel that these people are abusing the system and the system is making it easier for for them to do this everyday. The sad part is that they are having children and these children aren't learning anything good from this type of activity. They are starting out in life behind the rest of society. Many will grow up to be just like their parents. I was speaking with a local police officer the other night (before we both got dispatched to a suicide attempt) and he told me that, in his 28 years as a police officer, he has had to deal with three different generations of muiltiple families. This just proves that, in many cases, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

I have no problem with a stay home mother, as long as she doesn't sponge off of the system when there are other altenatives.

The welfare and social security systems need some fixing.

Medic & Al, I agree; daytimt TV is oriented toward those of lower intelligence, and towards women.

But look at nighttime and even so-called primetime TV; it's not much better. It's still oriented, for the most part, toward the lowest common denominator.
