I emailed American Agip about their Synthetic PC 5W-40. I didn't see a Data Sheet on their website. Here is data.

API SM/CF
ACEA A3/B4-04
VW 502.00/500.00
Porsche
Mercedes Benz 229.3
BMW LL-01
GM-LL-B-025

Viscosity @ 40c 79.67
Viscosity @ 100c 13.44
Viscosity index 172
Pour point -46c
Flash point 240c

Is this a group III or group IV oil? This is off their website.

"Agip products are manufactured from the highest quality solvent-refined paraffin base oils and bright stocks and the latest technology in heavy-duty additives.

Having a -46c pour point seems odd for a group III oil. They usually have one around -36c to -39c. It's on the thin side for a 40 weight also. I can buy this stuff for $8.41 a quart shipped to my door.

Any comments on Agip oil?

The Group III stocks could be on par with those of Shell Helix. We see very good pour points with PP and its just a group III, not a slack wax group III like Helix if I recall correctly.

Mobil 1 0W40 passes Mercedes Benz 229.5 and the other specs (Porsche BMW LL-01 ...) and you can get it for $6.xx at WM. Why pay more to get less ?

I agree.
Mobil 1 0W-40 has better stat's (VI of 186 for starters) is cheaper and readily available.
BTW, IMO the PP is a useless spec'. The CCS or MRV has value if your starting an engine down around -35C otherwize the 40C vis spec and VI is all you need to judge which oil has the lower (lowest) start-up viscosity at more typical "cold" temps.
