Installing a Viofo A229 plus dashcam to my GLE and it comes standard with a cigarette connector.
Could I splice this cable (it has 2 wires one GND and 12v) and connect it with a 12v fuse tap and hide the wiring behind the upholstery vs. running to the dash console?

Agreed, I intend to cut off the end at the cigarette lighter and connect a fuse tap and then hook it a fuse box.
I wanted confirmation before cutting the provided cable

it is a 12v or 5v camera?
cutting the plug off might change the voltage if there is a dc - dc converter in it.

Not sure until receive the package. You are right if it’s a USB then will connect as is without a 12v-5v converter. Only splice the wire if the other end is a cigarette lighter

I am missing something. You say its 12v with 2 wires.. then say you dont have it yet.

From my 30s of google it appears to be usb which makes me think splicing it onto a 12v source without the end plug might damage it.

Many are 5v.. although some of the ones with proprietary cords and barrel connectors are 12v.

They make mini converters that tap powered rearview mirrors to give a usb power source close to the camera if thats an option.

I am not confused whatsoever do have a clear path - 12v will splice it and connected to fuse panel, if it’s a 5V USB-A it goes as-is into the center glove box.

Finished installation was pretty easy. The power is from a USB-A port and connected to a USB in central glove box. IMO it’s best to get the conversion kit and hook it up to a fuse.
