what features are you looking for.
I could recommend 50$ or 500$ depends on many things
I'd start with
Resolution.
number of cameras typically front , front and rear windows, and front and rearward facing inside car (ideal for uber)
I also prefer the "super capacitor" vs battery. (they all plug in)

are you prepared to run a wire to the rear one? under the headliner or trim?

Rear is very handy but front is essential.
When you get rear ended its usually their fault.. if you rear end someone its automatically your fault unless you have evidence..
Of course some states are no fault but if someone is seriously injured it can help you prevail in court.

Make you get "High Endurance" Micro SD cards for them.
A hardwire kit also from Amazon isn't that expensive either.
if you dont get a tiny microsd i dont think you need high endurance at that premium.
I've have a 64GB and its been in there for 4 years now still works fine.
if its only a couple $ more then of course.
Both my Kenwood(forgot model) and Garmin Mini 2 have proven reliable and easy to use with good camera quality. 1080p with decent night vision. Not great, but gets the job done. Both can be purchased from Best Buy for around $110.
IMO, the kenwood is more straight forward, is basically a self contained unit. All functions can be done on the cam itself with the only thing requiring a computer being viewing footage. The hardware kit is rather inclusive with 2 mounts, two cable set ups(magnetic or plug), and a couple of wire holders to help with a clean install.
the garmin mini2 requires you to download the garmin app to set up the camera. The footage is automatically stored on a micro sd but for $5 a month you can subscribe to their cloud service which uploads footage and saves for 30 days instead of the standard 24 hours if you don’t. This way you don’t need to break out the laptop to view footage. My biggest issue with this is the amount of data it would use. But the Mini 2 is very small and discreet compared to the kenwood. It is the same size as a smart key. Not much hardware included besides 2 mounts and 2 cables, 1 short 1 long. It does offer sync if you decide to run a second mini2 for rear view.
I’ve had 3 other no name cams ranging from $60 to $120 off Amazon and they were all Junk. Footage quality was trash and always lagged so it missed a lot of footage. I had one glitch out right as I almost got into a head on collision. I went to pull the footage to show a buddy of what happened…the camera decided to reformat during the 3 seconds that I almost crashed.

I've loosely have looked at them on and off for sometime now. Last week on the way home from work one morning almost got side swiped, then yesterday went to Wal Mart to snag oil filters and a guy pulled out in front of me. So its time for me to get one.

I rarely ever say this and mean it as much as I mean it with dash cams, but...the old saying “you get what you pay for” is VERY VERY true with dash cams!
The difference between a $20 unit (they do exist, the teenager next door to me had me install his) and a $40 unit is night and day. Then the difference between a $40 camera and an $80 camera is also night and day...and so on and so forth.
The difference in quality between a $20 dash cam and a $200 unit would most likely be so drastic that it would be like comparing two completely different products that were each made for a different purpose.

I would agree with one provision... some brands are terribly overpriced for what they are.
High end blackvue etc are nice.
The budget amazon cams yes you have to be picky and do more research than amazon's shill filled reviews.
I have this one also, based off reviews of nighttime video quality. Was also decently priced, has both front and rear cams, does not require owner to make an account, and can be directly connected to via wifi.
I put 2 of these in my car. They are 4k so the video is great.

I have the Rexing V3. It does a great job recording forward and back. It also picks up the driver wearing a seatbelt and NOT texting. I recently got a ticket for texting and driving, and I was not. I was unwrapping a pack of gum. The ticket was 5 points and $450. Plus mandatory driver training for 3 years.
I'm thankful the court saw my position on the subject.

Mama recently had a very minor accident on the highway during a traffic jam. The dash cam recorded front and back, and we sent it to the insurance company. It was quite clear what happened, the other driver was stuffing his face with a Subway Sandwich, was not looking and drove right into the side of her truck as she was changing lanes at 4mph.

Glad it worked out for you. I wish they would enforce txt and driving here. It is crazy the amount that I see doing it driving as well as sitting at a light and not moving because they are on their phone.
I run Viofo cameras in all 3 cars.

I have this one and its good (not excellent). Recording quality is less if you have both front and cabin recording at same time, using both its hard to make out plate #'s so I am going to switch to front only. No WiFi so you have to either pop the SD card or bring camera to your computer to get footage.
Install was incredibly easy with the Vantrue hardwire kit that has various style fuse piggy backs. I tapped into the trunk 12V outlet fuse on my ID.4.
