Oh come on, I drink rarely a beer and I require two bottles of Optimator to feel a slight buzz. I always get a headache from it, though.

You must be tougher than me

Guess once this six-pack is gone,I should pop a few ibuprofen ;)I have to work the early shift in the morning.

A couple large glasses of water and a B-supplement vitamin after a night of drinking will have you good to go the next day. Make sure to eat some greasy food as well.

The good people at Saranac make one called Black Forest that you could only get in their "sampler" packs. Yummy stuff. Too bad they do not sell that brand down here. Another insanely dark and good one is the Brooklyn Brewerys Dark Chocolate Stout, wow.

I would think most any porter or stout would satisfy your dark urges. I have been meaning to try the Sam Adams Cream Stout, myself.

Enjoy your search for your favorite!

Saranac Black Forest is excellent. You can get it in at least six packs up in NY. I was in Utica for business and the hotel bar had $2 talls of Black Forest. That was a good night. We moved from Rochester, NY three years ago and I really, really miss access to Saranac. At least St. Arnold produces some good beer.

Shiner Black Lager is very good and usually I only like the Bock or Heffi.

You know, I tried some St. Arnold when I moved back to Houston a couple of years ago and I was not impressed. It struck me as a very hoppy beer yet not very flavorful. Maybe I should resample. For the sake of supporting your local brewery, you know.

I have some Sam Adams Black Lager in the fridge now -- I'm not crazy about those, either. There's almost a burnt taste to it. I will resample tonight.

Back to Saranac, what I really miss is their Pale Ale. I used to buy it by the 12-pack and considered it my "everyday" beer. At about $1 per beer it was a bargain. I liked every Saranac I ever had, even their lager.

For overall darkness I like East End Breweries Blackstrap Stout, great stuff!

Also a quick shout out to all the IPA drinkers in the house! I think we are slowly taking over the Craft Beer World! I like the Stop Ruination myself, and Victory Hop Devil if I want something a little less agressive.

Oops I meant Stone Breweries Ruination IPA.

I'm currently working on a growler of the best double IPA I've ever had. We have a small (10bbl) production brewery near me that goes by the name of Spring House Brewing Co. that is putting out some very high quality stuff. They only have one permanent beer, a pale ale, then rotate specialty brews one at a time. Two or three weeks ago it was an incredible Imperial chocolate stout, again one of the best I have tasted. I believe he is brewing a coffee stout today and then an Imperial red after that.

Nice to see some Saranac love here! Their Pale Ale is one of my favorite flavors of there on top of the Black Forest and Black and Tan. I know it's somewhat comparable but have you ever tried any of the Dundee offerings? They have a decent variety pack and their pale ale isn't half bad. Last I read, they distribute in 48 states too..
