Danco Shower Cartridge - Worth Using

I need to replace the cartridge in my Delta shower valve, as it drips. When I searched online, I found not only the Delta cartridge (type P), but also a direct replacement made by Danco. The Danco is available for about half the price, so it is tempting, but I'm concerned that there is a reason that the Danco is cheaper. I have no problem paying the extra for the Delta, if it is better quality.

Any experience with Danco shower cartridges? Can I expect similar performance? Or should I steer clear of it, and go with the Delta cartridge?

Have to use Danco as Valley builder grade faucets has gone away. I get about 10 years out of one and they give warnings.

I had to cut the collar off my shower faucet and you can get a new one from Amazon. I used a Danco a few years ago and it's still working; not leaking. Edit: I got a Delta for free in the mail because they have a lifetime warranty but haven't used it yet.

Call Delta, they have a lifetime warranty.
Even for the cartridges? I assumed that Delta would not include cartridge replacement in the faucet.

Let us know if you get the original Delta cartridge out. I’ve had some fun with that in an area where hard water was used.
I already pulled the cartridge out, and put it back in, so I could get a part number off of it. It was tough. But I managed to get a grip on it, and pull it out with a pair of long needle nose pliers, that are bent, for pulling hoses off fittings.

For about a year, Home Depot would give you a new Delta cartridge if you turned the old one in. i had a couple of old ones, so I snagged two new ones free.. Unfortunately they stopped doing that and now I am back to paying for the cartridges. I replace them for customers. The cartridges are not inexpensive.

I have had to cut handles off because the set screw seized. As mentioned earlier in this thread, the retaining collar can also seize and might have to be cut out. Fortunately both the handles and the collars are readily available and are inexpensive.

try some Freeze-off to remove handles from stems,,much easier, just tap a little to remove. Delta is the best home faucets, and Moen at least for the money, when changing a cartridge use a silicon faucet grease as it makes them last longer, plus flush/clean (soak in lime away) the aerator or replace, helps the faucet internals last longer. (less back pressure).

That's great to know. I'll be calling them tomorrow. That will save me about $65, from the pricing I saw at Home Depot and Lowes, for a new Delta cartridge.

Thanks, @Vercingetorix and George7941.
Delta has a time limit of some sort...or at least they did back when my original faucets were installed. How old is your cartridge? Mine were 1996 and a couple of years ago they were barely outside of the window for warranty replacement. That being said, regardless if Delta covers it or not buy Delta again, not Danco.

Delta /Moen /Price Phister all have a lifetime warranty on most of their products . i have gotten warranty replacements from all three in the past . some for stuff over 20 years old

If you can't get a warranty part, I would stick with an OEM part. I never had any long term success with Danco or any other off brand part.

Cartridges are covered by Delta's lifetime warranty but you may have to push back to get it. Alternatively, depending on what's wrong with the cartridge, you could just replace the rubber seats for $10. I would not go aftermarket here.
