CVT fluid change amount for 2018 CR-V drain and fill?

I'll be changing the CVT fluid in my wife's 2018 CR-V 1.5t this weekend and there seems to be a lot of discussion about the correct way to get the right amount of fluid back in after the drain.

Is there any reason I can't simply measure the fluid that came out and replaced it with the exact same amount?

Thanks!

I've done that. It puts you back to the level it was. You would still want to check the dipstick, if there is one.

Fortunately the only place to ever change the CVT fluid prior to now is the dealer so I'm putting faith in them for having the correct amount in there.
Is it a 2wd or an AWD?

Get the car hot before you drain, then make sure it is hot when you do the level check.

On my 21 Honda HRV I drain it and also remove the side plug. Then install the drain plud and fill it till it starts coming out of the side plug...Install the side plud and start it up and run through the gears for a few seconds each..turn off remove the side plug and add if needed Honda OEM CVT fluid till it starts to come out and install the side plug and you are done... A very easy jog to do...

when i wanted to do a drain a refill on mom 2017 crv i went to the dealer and asked how much fluid did i need. he told me the service techs just get 4 quarts and fill it up and don't even measure. i bought 5 quarts and then drained it. what came out was a little less then 4 quarts. i put back what came out.

2WD right?

You have a side plug to check the level...Just keep adding fluid till it starts to dribble out.....thats all there is too it...

In our ‘15 I used an extractor and pulled it out topside.

When I bought the extractor, I fed it 1 quart at a time and marked the level on the outside.

That way I can measure what came out, and replace the same back in. Worked fine on our ‘15.

I enjoyed one change with amsoil CVT fluid, however TC engagement tuning was best with the oem fluid.
