Just hit 30k on my 14 accord, 95% highway. Mm has not indicated a fluid change is needed, but I'm thinking about it. Do it now or wait til 40k?

Subscribed to this thread. My daughter '14 Accord LX is about 30k miles too.

Which CVT fluid are you going to use, OEM fluid or Amsoil CVT ? I have Mityvac 7201 I wonder if it can be used to siphon CVT fluid from the dipstick tube ?

Honda CVT Fluid Change

If you haven't already, take a look at post #7, I took a proactive approach on my wife's 2014 Accord w/CVT. We are currently at 42.7K and all is well. I am going to run out this CVT fluid to 60K and see what the story is then. Good luck with your Accord, this is our 2nd...and the first 4 cyl; I just made a round trip with my daughter on Wednesday to UT Southwestern Medical Center in Central Dallas and got 33.9 mpg. What's not to love about that?

Nothing wrong with changing transmission fluid sooner than later. I don't have an Accord CVT but the CVT fluid in my Subaru has been changed at 10K and 60K.

If you do change the fluid my advice is to stick with the OEM product. CVTs are not something that you want to experiment with.

Is the case on a Honda CVT vertically split with no pan like their conventional automatic? Meaning no pan to drop?

This being the case, they'll probably have a nice means to drain and fill like regular Honda ATs.

Change the fluid at 30k & 60k and you should be set for life after that. The Honda CVT Fluid is very good and take a lot to break down according to the service advisors in The NYC AREA

Wait until the MM says to change it. Especially when you're still under warranty.

Valvoline and Castrol make good CVT fluids.

There is a member here who has changed it on his late model Impreza CVT. I've also seen some pics from Outback CVT oil changes.

I'm still curious to know if the Honda CVT has a pan or not.

In November 2014 I bought a 2011 Nissan Quest with a cvt and 48k miles.
I did a siphon and fill when we first got it. Got about 4 quarts out and replaced with genuine Nissan NS2 fluid.
Did another siphon and fill November 2015 at about 57-58k also with OEM fluid.

The first change, the fluid looked dark but not terrible. The 2nd change the fluid looked slightly dark, but not as bad as the 1st.
The fluid on the stick after the 2nd change looks like new.

I may just do a siphon and fill on this unit every year.
I may switch to Amsoil CVT fluid for the next service as it will be past the 60k power train warranty.
I'm an Amsoil dealer so the fluid costs considerably less than the dealer fluid.

Im interested in this thread. Got a 2013 accord exl cvt in the fam and soon nearing the CVT fluid change interval. Probably let the dealer do this one since its not my car. Just the thought of not being able to use my beloved Maxlife in a CVT just kills me!
