Cutting the clear coat

This past Monday I had those two 7" scratches removed by an autobody shop. They had to remove the clear coat for the whole entire back portion of the truck where the rear driver side wheel is. At first I was not too happy about this, but after 2 opinions, that is what they do. Results are fantastic and in fact it now looks better then ever.

When you see Black Vehicles with swirl marks or any other marks on the body, removing and re-applying the clear coat takes all that away. At least that is my experience thus far. Does anyone know if this is what is called "cutting" the clear coat? Makes a huge difference.

they dont remove all the clear, if they did the shine would be gone, they remove enuff to remove the imperfections.

The dealers have arrangements with detailers that do nothing but remove scratches from used cars, the key is to get the phone number of one of these as they will do private work. They are amazing at removing scratches at a fraction of the cost of a dealer paint shop. Sort of like the Dent Wizard these guys are the scratch wizards. Also, a few specialize in the plastic bumpers whihc most body shops refuse to touch without a full sanding and repaint
