Compares cut away of Motorcraft with many brands, scroll down to it.
Filter compare.
Also tells why Motorcraft uses threaded end bypass valve.

I am going back to Motorcraft filters for most all of my applications, but will still use Wix if it has the threaded end bypass.

Odd, link works fine for me in Firefox but I am having trouble with Internet Explorer. Okay, maybe not the world, only 17 brands compared to MC. No Mann/Mahle.

Thanks!
Its a PDF file. If you get it to open, download it while you can.

Thanks for the info. I saved the file. Good stuff!
I found it kind of ironic when they compared the mc to other purolators.

If anyone ever questioned why I shun M1 and K&N now you know why. Theres about half the media of a wix or purolator.

The concept is media wash-down and I don't think Ford is out to lunch with it.

Motorcrafts rock! My favorite value line filters by far.

I get drain back problems with Wix's version of the thread end bypass but not Motorcraft. And they cost less too.

My only "wish" would be that Motorcrafts filtered at higher efficiency, they've been tested at around 93%, which is okay, but that's the exact reason I happen to be running a 99% Tough Guard right now.

I know 93 versus 99 percent doesn't sound like much, until you flip it around. Then you realize for every 1 20 micron particle a 99% filter lets through, the 93% filter lets through 7! That effectively makes the 99% filter 700 percent more efficient, not the 7 percent you initially think of when you see the efficiency numbers.

Motorcrafts still rock though!

In the case of my '05 Tacoma with the 4.0L V6, I want a dome end bypass because the filter is vertical with the base end mounted straight down.

Filters that are mounted horizontally don't really care where the bypass valve is located.

On filters mounted with the base end up, the bypass in the base might help if there is tons of crud collecting in the can when the car is shutdown.

Best location of the bypass valve depends on the orientation of the filter. Ford typically mounts filters at 45 deg, with the base up, like shown in the PDF file.

Wife and I drive Fords and I just use the Motorcraft filters. Can't be beat for the price and you know they will work the best in our applications. Been working for us for years and hundreds of thousands of miles.

When I drove an Infiniti, same thing - Nissan oil filters for that too. Cost was not much more (even at the Nissan dealer) and you knew it was made to work with the car.
