'04 Colorado 3.5L Inline 5-cylinder 105k miles
PYB 5w30 & 25% MMO
Duration was 5k miles from November-10 to April-11.

My next OCI is 5 qts. M1 AFE 0w30, 1 qt. M1 HM 5w30, and a PureOne filter. I'll be running it 7.5k.

The two holes in the bottom of the canister are from me poking a screw driver through to allow oil to drain out before removing filter from engine.

The media looks a little distorted. But still intact and no holes so that's good. Metal shavings but that's mostly from the hack saw you used. They have a filter cutter designed for oil filters sold by summit racing and allows you to cut the filter open just like you did but with no shavings. It's like 45 bucks after shipping tho.

Looks like it's picking up some gritty sludge material (?).

u guys need to discover girls, really, u must be bored IMHO, so Im buying the suds, long neck buds, tail gates, 3 acres of yard and bring u own bottle of ur choice,,Its sunday, I think.lol

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'd agree that MMO was definitely cleaning things out a bit.

Looking through the fill hole on the intake manifold at the very front of the engine, about 25% of the cam is covered in what I would call "burnt" oil. It's been there since my dad bought it with 25k miles on the truck (now at 105k). Maybe someone with more knowledge of these Atlas inline engines can chime in, but I believe I've read in the past that the area under the fill hole on these particular engines isn't as well ventilated or doesn't get as much oil flow as the rest of the engine!?!?!?! Am I crazy or has anyone else heard this about the Atlas engines? I'll try to snap a picture and post it in this thread tomorrow.

Anyway, I've run all sorts of OCI's and nothing really seems to remove the burnt oil on the cam in this area. I ran the last two OCI's with MMO just to make sure that if the rest of the engine was indeed as dirty as it looked through the fill hole, maybe it would clean it up a bit, and I think it has.

We'll see what the Pure One filter looks like in 7500k with 5 qts. M1 AFE 0w30 and 1 qt. M1 HM 5w30. I'll be sure to report back with more pics.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Ok, here's a pic looking through the fill hole. Now that I look at it a little closer, I think some of the burnt/crispy oil on the cam has been cleaned away, but there's still some on there.

What do you guys think?

I agree.. looks more like a baffle of sorts. Unless it's spinning when the engine is running

.. If you want to see what's really caught in that media, set it upright on some paper towls for a day or two to drain.

I'm not positive that it's the cam. It looks like it could be so I've always assumed it was. You guys are probably right.

Thanks for the tip on the media Virtuoso!
