This cut and post is a Magnefine from a 2003 Dodge Caravan 3.3 with 165,000 miles. The filter was used for 5 years and about 20,000 miles. The paper element looked great and there was maybe 1/32 inch of metal fines on the magnet. I opened the filter by grabbing the weld seam with vice grips and bending back and forth. Tin snips will not touch the tough stainless canister. Replaced with the same Magnefine. Seems like a quality product. FYI

53' Stude - I just changed the filter. I use this vehicle for towing a small trailer, so every year I vac out 4 quarts of fluid and replace with fresh ATF+4. The standard Dodge trans filter media looks like a synthetic dish scrubbing pad. I am guessing it is only good for catching rocks and bird nests. This is my first Magnefine and I was pleased at the tiny amount of metal fines on the magnet. I hope to get another 5 years out of this old vehicle.

I am thinking about putting on my 14 Toyota Venza. Which side did u install it? Output side of the transmission and to the radiator?

The Magnefine can has an arrow painted on it which shows direction of flow. You could install it in either line so long as the fluid is flowing in the correct direction through the Magnefine. The directions on my original Magnefine suggested disconnecting the cooler lines and having a helper start the engine briefly while you see what line the fluid gushes out of. Sorry for the long winded explanation. Does this make sense?

Thanks for sharing, looks great. I've got one on the return line and was planning to change it every 30k miles, but perhaps it can go longer.

It’s usually most ideal to put it on the return side of the cooler going back into the transmission. This is because debris can be stuck in the cooler and the filter can catch it before it circles back through. If a guy needed to install a new cooler then it would be better to put the filter before the cooler to filter fluid before it enters the cooler since the its brand new.
