Current Oils with Dexos 1 Gen 3 approval?

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum has lost its "Dexos GM Approval" as Shell was forced to change its formulation process following the Iranian missile strike on Shell's Pearl GTL plant in Ras Laffan, Qatar. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is now a Hydrocracked Oil, not an ultra-pure GTL Oil.
You don’t need GTL to have a Dexos cert. All about saving the Benjamin’s

Theoretically, what happens if all/most Dexos “approved” oils are no longer available? The same oil jug that used to be Dexos no longer is.

Will GM start blaming the lack of Dexos for engine issues?

I ask this in regards to people who insist Dexos is required for their engine.
Yes, they will. You will be told that they had it at the dealer parts department for $155.88 a case of 12. Scumbags.

Just hold your receipts they don't know what product was on the shelf during time of purchase it could have been old stock. I highly doubt the skus are changing on the bottles. Everyone needs to relax. What would you all do during a real life threatening situation?

Supertech pepper spray of course!!

Was at Walmart earlier and can confirm none of the Pennzoil or Quaker State outside of the 1 jug I seen there had dexos on them. Castrol, Valvoline, and mobil 1 was plenty stocked with dexos label

GTL is hydrocracked as well.

Lots of imagination about base stocks sometimes.

Can you not run the Dexos “R” oils and still be warranty covered?

No DEXOS printed on the bottles but I’m running Euro 0W-40 which is a Dexos “R” oil.

If the oil meets or exceeds spec then the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act should be applied and gm would be forced to prove if the oil caused the warranty issue

Also, if GM said in their OM documentation that a dexos rated oil is required to maintain the warranty, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act says they may have to provide that oil for free to the customer. The one loop-hole is that it may not apply unless they specifically say that GM branded dexos is required to maintain warranty.

If Sam Walton were still alive, and saw this photo, the store manager would be called at home and sent to personally straighten up those shelves.
