Current KIA dealership bulk oil

now its on to tracking down the diff fluid and trans fluid for the "bring home a new used car" maintenance start.

The Kia store my dad goes to is also a Ford store, so his Sportage has a Motorcraft battery and the oil change sticker has the Motorcraft logo on it...wonder if they are pouring 5w20 Motorcraft oil?!? The filter is a Kia part, which is good news.

This dealership also pushes Cooper tires as their 2nd tier brand...guess that could be worse.

From what we have seen here the MC synblend oil would be a good thing.

I did read that people seem to have good luck in sticking with an OE filter for these motors. I read on a KIA forum that some guys claim using an OE filter (cartridge) helps with the startup noise.... not sure about that, just relaying what I saw in a forum.

Well, yes, anything is possible, but even if someone works at Ricky Bobby KIA Superstore down the road, they don't know what Turner KIA is using was my point.

Technically, I work for a KIA dealer too, but only as far as my involvement in wholesale parts. Since I don't ever physically work the shop counter at the KIA service dept, I have no idea what they use for oil. I do work the shop counters at Chevy and sometimes Hyundai though.

We use a regional distributor to supply most of our oil. We don't really place orders for oil, rather we have a contract where we tell them what our oil requirements are and they supply an appropriate product on a regular schedule. We tell them we need 5W30 Dexos, 0W20 Dexos, and 5W30 conventional in bulk. They set up the tanks and keep them filled. When they come to fill them, they write up an invoice for how much they added and we give them a purchase order number and send the bill to accounting. We also get smaller quantities from them...for example drums of 5W20 conventional, and cases of Mobil 1 5W30 and Delo 400 15W40. We are about to ask them for Dexos 2 for diesel Cruzes because those things are getting to be a pain in the [censored], and we had to use an expensive Liqui Moly oil the last couple of times because we couldn't find the Pennzoil or Mobil Super (XE?) 5W30s that met the spec. Mobil 1 5W30 probably wouldn't kill the stupid things, but we still try to use the most appropriate oil we can get and Dexos 2 is a pain in the [censored].

I also buy a lot of oil from Napa, and a lot from a local AC Delco/Motorcraft/Mopar distributor. For a while the 0W20 Dexos came from the AC Delco distributor before we had to go bulk. Napa is our go to for sales/closeouts and emergencies (pumps being down for whatever reason), as well as things that we keep in very small quantities. For example, I like to keep a couple cases of Napa 5W30 conventional around for our parts trucks, and I use it when I change the oil on my 1994 Ranger. We also have some Kendall synthetic in 0W20 and 5W20, and a some other random stuff. If Napa has any kind of good sale on oil and we notice it, we usually stock up. They put some kind of Valvoline NextGen on sale when it got discontinued for something like $0.89 a quart, and I bought all of it to put in the parts trucks.

Some dealers probably do buy marginal, [censored] oils, but I think most are not going to go out of their way to do that. They will just try to get what meets their requirements for the lowest cost. A lot of times that ends up being pretty good oil, but dealers are all different.

We do order some fluids/chemicals directly from GM, Hyundai, Kia, etc., but fluid/chemical orders through them are pain in the [censored] for whatever reason (I don't place the corporate chemical order myself, I just ask for it, so I don't know exactly why) and not something you want to do if you can avoid it by using a local distributor. You almost never order motor oil that way. The only motor oil we ever got through a manufacturer chemical order was some Mitsubishi stuff.

^^^ ya see I (and many others) come here for information and discussion in hopes of avoiding, comments exactly like that....

If you don't like the comment the "block" feature can be used........However, the OP has nothing to be concerned with as the oil the dealer is using is meeting at least the factory minimum specs. He can sleep at night.

My bet is that it will run a long time on 5W-30 blend. I'd go to some store that has a large selection and buy a good blend.

You don't say how many miles? Did the vehicle come with an owners manual? What does it say?

If it were me and the vehicle had say 60,000 miles, I'd be into a good syn-blend 5W-30 and a factory filter. Change it every 5K or so and cruise on

90k mi
The book says 5-20 for fuel eco. then quickly jumps to 5-30. The only blends that are easily available here is Max-life and MC. Yeah I get it, I'm splitting hairs with a future oil selection... but in reality is that not what we do here ? LOL !!
My other hobbies are on hold right now... so I need SOMETHING to overthink !! As a "former engineer" I'm certain you can relate LOL !!!

The family owned dealership that we purchased our Hyundai from actually showed us the paperwork from the company they use for bulk oil. They use Cam2 synblend which looks pretty good on pqia tests.

They also own the Ram/Dodge/Jeep/Kia dealership that I got my Ram from. They use the same for their bulk. I use full syn in my Ram, for which they use DuraMaxx in bottles. They have been very helpful and have no problem being open about things.

I did the first oil change tonight, I went with PP for the most part... What I mean is it calls for 5.5qt and they did not have any other single qts of PP so I used a qt of PP High Mileage both in 5-30.
