Cummins 5.9, 112k on engine, oil unknown.

Educated guess is that this oil had 4.5k on it. 3 oz. of Neutra for 2.5k and an additional 3-4 oz. the last 1k. Sample was taken towards the end of the drain.

Copper 71
Iron 150
chrom 7
alum 37
lead 16

moly 64
phos 1740
zinc 1864
mag 756
calc 3803
silicon 26

visc 15.33
sulf 6
oxi 8
nit 9
soot zero
anti-freeze, fuel H2O all nil.

Guesses on the brand of oil? Comments on the engine?

Air flilter has been changed and it is getting its first dose of Schaeffers 700 15-40 Ci-4 plus and a regular Disesel treat 2000 bath. Next sample or two should tell a lot more.

What year 5.9L...the zero soot must mean a pre-common rail?

4500 miles and iron was 150ppm? Is it abused?

The high copper is usually a side effect of using Amsoil, but I've never seen wear metals like that before with such a short change of any oil.

Dodge o3. Yes.

Who else would have that much moly besides Schaeffer? Delo perhaps?
The 4.k on the oil is strictly a guess based on an oil sticker of when mileage due, based at 5k. Maybe its 9.5k.

Looks like some kind of racing oil with the high Z and P. Calcium is way up there as well, plus has a dose of magnesium and a pinch of moly. No idea what brand of oil it is.

I'm just throwing this out there...

Would it possibly be a mix of several oils used as "top offs"? Would it even be a diesel-rated oil?

03 Dodge is a common rail engine, however, they didn't have a third injection event that would cause very soot laden oil.

Not entirely true...the common rails typically put more soot into the oil than non-common rails. Regardless of whether its an 04.5+ truck or not...but I agree, the 04 and older non-600CTD trucks typically aren't as bad as the 04.5+ trucks.

I'd like to know what the filter(s) are, and what oil was used...I'm guessing the oil wasn't diesel rated...

I am hoping the iron and copper count is due to the bottom of the pan sample and the neutra purge doing its job.

Yikes I am sending a used oil analysis from Schaeffer 9000 in from my Cummins in a few weeks when it is oil change time and I hope it doesn't look anything like that.

The 03 and early 04 common rails (305HP/555TQ) are exceptionally clean. Oil generally does not soot up during the entire oil change interval. Trik396 is correct. It is the 04 1/2 and onward engines (325HP/610TQ) with the third injection event that throw a lot of soot into the oil.
