They must have changed their business practices since the early 80's.

Maybe my standing in the middle of a large busy branch office on a pre-holiday Friday and screaming at the top of my lungs at the stupid manager about what a crooked crock of sh*t his bank was had some useful results.

Wacahol was the last commercial bank I ever used. I use Credit Unions now. Real customer service without lots of junk fees.

My 2nd. least favorite bank is BB&T for the same reasons.

We never have any issues with our monthly credit card payments and we work with citi, mastercard, GM, USAA and ATT. Basically every member of the family has their own card but dear old dad oversees everything.

We know every month that our bills are due around a certain date, usually within 1-2 days. Like the sun, moon, and market cycles.

So when I hear about not being notified of a payment, I just don't get it!

Like the bill date due on a holiday. Pay it 3-4 days ahead of time. No big deal, no issues and no hassles.

I've been using credit cards, mostly for traveling, for over 20 years. Not once has we had any issues, unless it was our own fault like not looking at the calendar.

cmhj: You have a career in bill paying. All to your credit. I hate the stuff. I'm lousy at most repetitive tasks. I'm a dragon slayer ..and you just cannot do that with recurring bills.

Keep in mind that I MADE EVERY PAYMENT EVERY 30 DAYS ..so, please, don't try and imply some lack of sensible execution. Have you REALLY read your entire bill (and every amendment to your contract)? I doubt it. So, I see that the 15th is the due date ..I schedule the payment on the 15th.

We refinanced in 98. The mortgage guy asked "what happened in 1996". I said, "I took over paying the bills". He thought for a moment ..and wrote it down. What I found was CheckFree. I have everything ....EVERYTHING that I can - paid automatically. If I'm over on my electric at the end of cooling season, I then, when I figure it out, skip X # of payments. The same with Water, Sewer, & Trash, the spring water company ..my heating oil supplier, my mortgage ..my auto insurance (normally $1800/6months was 4 drivers and 4 cars). I have about $4400 of scheduled payments a month. About the only thing not budgeted is fuel, food, and a few other things like car parts/repair/inspection.

My discipline is assuring that money is always there to make 100% of my payments on time without overdrawing the checking account. Yours obviously lies in the payout end of it with exquisite detail and precise date notion.

Keep in mind that the same thing happens if you pay it 1 day early.

Gary,

What's your problem neighbor?

Paying bills is easy & being responsible is being sensible. Just like getting up on time, allowing some time for traffic issues and getting to work on time.

& yes, I do and have read my contracts, which keeps me out of trouble.

Oh well,,,,,,,,,,,

I dunno...too numerous to list. But coping mechanisms are nominal and very little falls out of the confines of current abilities at current threat analysis levels (for peace in the valley).

No, paying bills is simple ..and so are any number of other tasks that get in the way of life. "Chores". They're necessary evils.

..on the other hand ..if chores ..and your mastery of them is some indication of worth ..I've got some friends that can give you a career in stall mucking at the horse farm. That should produce more pride than any one man can handle

...and I'm not being responsible? I made appropriate adjustments to my automatic routine and identified the problems to my approach. Have you never had an error occur in how you handled something? Always given everything ...everywhere, 100% of the attention that it needed? Never made a wrong turn ..been wrong? Good for you, if so.

..and this has what to do with how some credit card companies appear to purposely configure their billing methods to capitalize on consumers in a punitive manner? Socially rational life is not an exercise in predatory behavior. Pride in avoiding sharks kinda ignores that there's something wrong with sharks being part of the environment. "I can dodge all those land mines that they keep putting out there!" ..good for you.

Well, GAWD bless you, pal! If you can get passed the third sentence, and manage to comprehend what the heck they're really saying in those amendments, you must be in high station/status ..or, if not, are surely capable of such. OTOH, maybe you have a much higher tolerance for complex and boring text. Can I send you mine and you filter them to the Cliff Notes level? My life is too consumed by other tasks to consume it on (mostly) needlessly complex distractions. They count on this and have turned it into a profitable side venture. I try not to feed their machinery.

Now you could just call me lazy ..and by many definitions, you could be correct. I'll just ask you if you walk everywhere ..get up to change the channel on the television ..and write out all correspondence in long hand?? If not, why not? In many cases it allows us to be more productive ..that is, get along with the rest of life unencumbered by mundane tasks.

Happy motoring!

One thing good about the Paypal (GE) MC, I just enter the info to debit my bank account to pay the full balance on the due date. Works fine. I thought the money would transfer +3 or +5 days from the date I executed the order, but it waits until the due date to suck it in. Max use of their money - I guess. What's in it for them? (I thought they had a hold on the money, but not that I can see)
