New neighbor just moved in the apartment beside me. He's an accountant, got a wife and 2 kids. I usually make small talk, just a hi/bye, today in the morning the guy stops me to rant about his truck. No clue why he wants to rant to me about it, but I just smile and listen for 5 minutes.

His complaint: His "work truck" is costing him a ton on gas. He's got an F150, newer (1-2 years old). Why an accountant would need a "work truck" still has me confused. He uses it as his daily driver. I just left it as, "those darn oil companies making profits, blah blah".

I just need to avoid this nut from now on.

If you own a home i can see needing the truck but an accountant in an apartment? Bad choice, but i would not waste time chatting with him about it either.

Unfortunate that people are so lacking in civility and consideration for their neighbors or anyone else. I noticed you mentioned that after this gem and his family moved in you were civil and neighborly (saying brief hellos ,small talk, ect) but the problem with so many people today is once you (let them in socially) they take the civility you gave them for granted and start dumping on you.

Basically I have found that it is good to avoid all interaction with your neighbors, especially NEW neighbors. The best you can hope for today is one that doesn't bother you or create general disturbances in the neighborhood.

don't accountants make like 40 bucks an hour? btw some people just complain to make conversation when it really doesn't bother them that much but causes them appear as a negative person.

Tell him to buy one of these. It might be alittle better on gas.

Same reason everyone with boring jobs needs the largest vehicle possible, despite never needing it and only complaining about gas prices.

QED: A truck is considered manly and cheaper then a Ferrari. Thats all I'll say.

Yep, it bozos like this that TV stations love to interview at the gas pump when prices spike.

Why do idiots drive a big truck if they don't need it and whine about filling it up ?

I had an annoying customer Friday. guy went on and on talking about hia acura. car was not even at my shop. he went on and on about compression ratio's,ecu's'sticky tires etc. Stuff I don't care about.meanwhile I have other customers waiting. My boss saw what was happening and told the guy that I had to get back to work. So then he followed me back into the shop where I told him he could not be.

Next time go to a stall in the men's room.

I've never understood why some people think they "need" a truck. I've owned my home for 23 years and can count on my fingers (not including thumbs) how many times I've "needed" a truck.

wasn't there a thing awhile back where you could deduct a truck as a business expense? being an accountant I bet that's what he did.

a truck or a car; about 50 cents per mile is the standard deduction for business miles; about half of that 50 cents is projected depreciation in value of the vehicle; i drive 100,000 miles per year= a $50,000 tax deduction for mileage alone; after 100,000 miles vehicles stop depreciating; this is why i use "boutique" oils; "boutique" oils-that sounds so solid; i think i would be an annoying neighbor.
