our 99 nissan quest has developed an odd noise from the drivers power door lock. it still works fine, however, when locking or unlocking it seems to be cycling, very quickly, for 2-3 seconds.
I looked in the shop manual and it was of no diagnostic help, anybody have any ideas?

thanks.

You could try lubricating the mechanism to ensure it isn't sticking, and thus cycling several times because of the resistance. I've had a Nissan lock do that, and a quick cleaning and lube (with silicone spray) made it function like new.

I had the same problem with a 2000 model Quest. It went back to the dealer 3 times and they changed out the obvious electrical parts but the problems persisted. It was found to be water related in that water was getting into one of the electrical connections. The problem occured a few days after a rain event. The fix was finding the plug, drying it out and sealing the whole things with silicon sealer. Sorry I never found out what connector was the culpret.

my acura used to do the same kind of thing. hit a bump hard and the doors would either lock r unlock depending on what kind of mood thy were in that day. i pulled the drivers door panel off and soaked everything down with PB blaster and it went away.

This reminds me of the story about the "posessed" Cadillac. The door locks would randomly lock or unlock driving down the road. The problem was ultimately traced to a screw used in the installation of an aftermarket alarm which was touching a wire.
