I have various items that I want to sell. To include electronics and household goods. Which do you all think is the better route? And is one safer than the other.

Personally, I prefer the relative anonymity of Craigslist. Cash transactions, burner email, etc. I've sold a LOT of stuff on CL over the last few years. It's great for many things, but I've been told that for certain hobbies and collectibles that Facebook is king. It would explain why it's been near impossible to sell all the RC cars I own.

Do both. It really depends on the market. No rhyme. No reason.

I sell hundreds of vehicles every year. It's an absolute crapshoot between the two.

If you're concerned about safety, then complete the transaction at the police station. Nearly all provide a video camera that allows transactions to be done in a safe manner.

Craigslist has been around since 1995. Most people knew Craigslist a lot more than Marketplace which just came in 2016

Household goods? Garage Sale. Get it all done in a few weekends and make friends with your neighbors.

Electronics, Ebay.

Cars, Trucks, Trailers, "Equipment" FB/CL, but be prepared to be bombarded by flakes and no shows.

Craigslist is kinda dead around here, not quite what it used to be. I've been using Offer Up. I generally list on both, I'd say 1 in 4 sales are on Offer Up.

You can come across good folk or complete time wasters. There are also scammers.

With Facebook it's easier to do research about the potential buyer to weed out scammers a little more.

I've had much success with Craig's selling wheels and tires. Just sold some slightly used Pirelli Scorpion 275/50 22's last week. I always make the physical sale at a Dollar General near me.

There are many who will buy a brand new vehicle/truck and immediately upgrade the wheels to aftermarket. If you are ever looking new OEM wheels for a bargain, you can usually find them on CL. I don't use Facebook. They tend to censor opinions they do not agree with.

Where I live, I have never bought anything off Craigslist, nor do I know anyone that has sold or bought anything from Craigslist. That is probably due to a local tv/radio broadcaster that has an online classified, and it is far superior to Craigslist in ease of use, appearance, and traffic.

I have sold a lot of items on FB Marketplace, and they always go quick. My wife has also bought a few items off of Marketplace. Never a hassle. In our area, it seems that Marketplace must also get a lot of traffic.

Your locale may be different, but I would never waste my time with Craigslist.

This sounds crazy….

My older brother buys things from various online sellers.
He always brings his gun with him just in case.

That seems very ridiculously dumb to me meeting strangers and they know you have a nice chunk of cash.

Craigslist is not what it used to be. Now there are too many bottom feeders pretending to be interested or looking for someone to scam.

It's generally pretty easy to weed out the time-wasters and scammers on Craigslist. Simply ignoring any emails asking 'Is it still available?' is the best advice I can give. There is no obligation to interact with anyone you don't want to.

In roughly 6-7 years and about 80 sales, I've only had maybe two people pull me into a back-and-forth that tuned into a frustrating waste of time.

Online selling (and buying) is what you make of it. I can be and should be easy.

Both are good. CL gets people browsing at work who don't want to or can't use FB due to company policy.

Small stuff, $20 or less, I leave on a picnic table in my front yard with directions to inspect, and if approved, put money in a mason jar and help oneself. I could even be home, hiding behind a curtain, LOL. It keeps them from trying to whittle me down on price and it keeps me from being disappointed about no-shows.

Since my descriptions and photos are good, the only questions I'll entertain are with regards to show times. If you're too dumb to read, I don't want to deal with you, and you're fired as a buyer (time-waster.)
