This should go under the category of "why do I even bother to".

I had to go to my Dad's house in FL last week. He finally gave up cutting the grass with the 42 inch Craftsman tractor 3 years ago. It has a 15 or 16 hp OHV Industrial/Commrcial B/S. It has been sitting with (I thought) an empty fuel system for 3 years. I shot some fogging oil in spark plug hole, got a new battery from WM, added fresh fuel, and gave it a crank. Started almost immediately, ran for about 1 minute then I shut it off.I tried to restart it and raw fuel came pouring out of the muffler-you guessed it a stuck float. I did not think it was possible to hydrolock an engine with gas, but it did-would not crank.Took the bowl off and bowl had a lot of junk/rust in it. Tried cleaning it up a bit, but engine will only run on ether. Removed the plug and cranked it over-gas must have shot 10 feet out the open plug hole.Since I had to drive back up north, and will not be able to work on this for another month or so, I got the PZL Marine fogging oil from AAP and proceeded to fog the engine while cranking it over. Checked the oil level, and thankfully, it was not above the full mark being diluted with gas. Went down to the local OPE fix it shop and ordered a new Walbro carb-only $118 out the door. Will be putting tit on in early February, along with an immediate oil change and run for at least 1 hour to attempt to burn off any gas left in the crankcase. Then another oil change

Why do I even bother?

Whoa! $118 for a new carb sure takes a bite, but it sure beats spending ~$1000 on the least expensive new Craftsman rider.

problem is I've rebuilt them before--this one has obvious rust on the internals-didn't think they were plated. What I have found is even after a rebuild and complete cleaning in the GUNK carb cleaner 1 gallon pail, the same problem may reoccur.
Then I would be out several hours of work time and the price of the rebuild kit (about 20 bucks). With a new carb, I hope it will be plug and play
