I bought a pair of the Craftsman lighted linesman pliers on a whim the other day, thinking they may be useful in poorly lit workspaces. The light is pretty bright and could be very useful. However, the tool itself is a poor quality imitation of a pair of pliers. Not only do the jaws not close fully, they don't even line up. I took them back and exchanged them for another pair today. I should have opened the package in the store. This pair suffers from the same problems as the first, except for the light doesn't even work. I looked at the package and sure enough - Made in China! I think I will take them back tomorrow and ask for a refund. I was once a Craftsman tool fan, but no more. Thanks Sears, for prostituting out the Craftsman name to the lowest bid factory in China.

The difference being that you know harbor freight is an ultra low cost place for tools so you expect that they are made in china and cheap. Everything is being outsourced. If everyone stopped buying cheap garbage than companies wouldnt outsource. I will always pay more for North American made products that are clearly superior in quality. While I still covet my older Craftsman US made mechanics tools the better HF items especially the red mechanics boxes and Pittsburgh Pro tools are much better then anything sold at Sears
Even staples like the screwdrivers with the clear plastic handles, red and blue bands are now inferior to the much cheaper HF pro series.
Sears is just bleeding the Craftsman name for the last few dollars before they sell the brand

I hear you rolla07, i will pay a premium for usa made for way better quality. sears craftsman tools have cheap worthless china junk for years now. that why i have a 5gal pail of their broke s**t.

I bought a number of Craftsman tools over the last year and mostly all preformed well and "made in USA". e.g., 1/2'' socket set, 7 pcs. Industrial combo ratching wrenches
