Craftsman gas pressure washer no high pressure

For my neighborhood HOA, we have a newer (probably like 5 years old) Craftsman gas pressure washer that won't go into high pressure mode. Any ideas? Engine runs fine and it's hardly ever had any use. I haven't played with it much at all.

Cheap pumps, fail often. Look for one with a CAT pump and you'll have much more luck vs those chinese little single stage jobs..

I've got the exact one - it's about 6 years old. On year 3 the pump went - same deal as you - no high pressure.

I used these guys: https://www.pressurewashersdirect.com/power/pressure-washer-pumps.html and got a new pump. Works great again.

I have a CAT pump on my pressure washer, it doesn't put out pressure either. only has 11hrs on it. Failed pump I guess.

Agree, pump, though they are easy to rebuild if you can get parts for it. I have several pressure washers, one being a 11hp with dual belts. The rebuild kit for that is $400! But the pump is large and heavy, to pick it up takes both hands.

Might try taking out your unloader valve and lubing it well before you junk the whole pump.

Vertical shaft pumps are cheap. Get a new pump.

When pressure washer is running but trigger is not pulled, the unloader unloads and water recirculates and heats up. After 5 minutes it melts nylon in the valve as it gets very hot.

Which pump did you buy?

I checked and mine was the older 2500PSI unit that had the same engine. I used this pump: https://www.pressurewashersdirect.com/AR-RMW2.5G28/p8187.html

Only thing is my tubes come out the front instead of the rear but otherwise fits fine.

Junk it and have the HOA buy a proper pressure washer. Honda GX200 engine/Cat pump.

You can get those vertically mounted pumps for about $90 to $100 on ebay/Amazon if you really want to fix it.

yep, and it will only last a very short time again.....

All the vertical pumps I have ever seen are rated for 50 hours of use. Vertical pumps suck. They shouldn't be bought in the first place, but people do, even though they can get a comparable horizontal pump for similar money.
