Cracked Gas Tank

I have an old lawn boy push mower and today a crack developed in the gas tank and I want to know what my options are. Is there anything that will permanently seal the crack or do I have to try to find a replacement for it, which I'm not even sure is possible since it's about 13 years old. As far as I know everything else is fine with it. The crack did happen when the mower was in use and some smoke came out (no fire) but I turned it off and took the tank off, but it should still start, at least I think it should.

When a 13 year old plastic gas tank cracks once, additional cracks are usually ot far behind.

It's best to replace it.

Stop drill the crack at both ends and use JB Weld. You'll be fine with this fix until you can get a replacement tank.

That happened to an old briggs quantum powered toro pushmower of mine with the plastic wrap-around tank. I tried a few band-aid patches, but the leak would always come back. A trip to the toro dealer, and around $25 (IIRC) got me a new tank. They had to order it, but it came in pretty quick.

L-B had a recall on some of the tanks. I had to buy one for an older mower I was fixing to resell and I think it was around 30 bucks.

Thanks for the help. I think I'll look into the replacement tank for a permenent fix.

DR, Check out a place called RCPW.COM they have lots of factory parts at good prices. Watch out for the shipping though it's a tad high on small purchases.
