I live in Las Vegas and there everywhere. Mostly people who are on speed or crack as mentioned above. It's an epidemic out here.

I wanted to rent one to tour the city when I was out there.

They impede traffic, cause accidents, I've seen them out in like a foot of snow with the crack-pilot scrambling to get this crack-ped in motion when stopped at a snow-covered intersection, almost crashing into several cars in the process as it slides all over the place.

Why are these things allowed on the road? Is it really bright to give the dredges of society motorized cheap mobility with no actual driving skill requirements? That has disaster written all over it!

Is this a problem where you live folks?

Your picture tripped my malware warning on Avast.

Now THAT is funny! LOL! Didn't do anything with ESET.

We used to have more of a problem here in SC but they have started to be more proactive enforcing the licensing laws. I do believe that anything like a scooter that can go faster than 10 mph requires a drivers license.

We have just a big a problem here with people driving ATVs on public roads which is specifically against the law. Not to mention so many of these people take the exhaust baffles off so that the [censored] thing is as loud as being next to a jet plane taking off.

They definitely need to start confiscating those ATVs that are driven on the roads.

What is? If you think I'm using creative exaggeration here to further my point you would be sadly mistaken. This is a REALITY, no different than whatever chemicals the guy that scared the [censored] out of my wife and sister tonight when we were walking the dog was on. Grinning like a fool he looks at us and whispers "I killed that cat" as he then Mary Poppins his way for about 50ft before spotting a car coming and walking out in the middle of the road on a diagonal AT the car. The guy in the car slams on his brakes and buddy raises his arms in the air and then turns with his crazy grin and spins 'round on his heels a few times and then walks off. He then starts tossing a water bottle he's carrying up in the air while mumbling incoherence's and checking out people's yards.

There are all kinds of treasures out there. And now they have cheap Chinese electric transportation, which makes them even more of an unbearable nuisance and even more dangerous.

Thats pretty tame for most of us in the states.

Did it to me too.

As far as crack-peds, they seemed more common in NC than they are here. Actually, they were quite common in NC. NC allows you to drive one on public roads without a license if it is less than 50 cc. I'd see at least a couple a day. However in NC, it is also difficult to drive a car without getting caught if your license has been suspended/revoked (more patrolling, strict vehicle registration, inspections tied to registration, etc). In AL, you can slap a dealer's advertising tag on the back of the car and nobody will bother you for a while. With no tag # to run, they can't see that the owner has a suspended/revoked license. It's very common to see cars here with just a dealer's advertising tag (not a temp tag - we don't have that), or no tag at all.

One of my friends got a street legal 26 or 27 cc China scooter as a partial trade for some junky ATV. We used to ride it on the street a lot, but mostly in the neighborhood. One time my friend did take it out on highway 49 in the snow though. Eventually another one of my friends cracked the frame in a pothole, but that may have been aided by rust caused by the snow rides and scraping the frame a lot. We "repaired" it and continued to ride it. Eventually it could only really be driven around the yard. It's still currently sitting in a friend's garage, but hasn't ran in at least 8 months and is probably dead for good this time. It originally had electric start, turn signals, and everything, but all of that got destroyed. It doesn't even have brakes anymore.

I live in a good area. These developments in my city are recent, and ALARMING! I'm extremely bothered by this stuff, as I grew up here and the town was very different back then. There weren't stabbings and shootings, we didn't have methadone clinics or people sleeping on the streets. About the meanest thing we had was the odd bar brawl.

The regression of society is depressing.

Having seen someone Mod a moped, that made me laugh out loud...in our case, I watch the guy get pulled over....

I see the difference in the town as well, 10-12 years ago there wasn't the numbers of shady people around and there wasn't the scooters either. In the little towns near me I never see scooters but I guess they aren't sold there either.
I'd blame part of it on the the decline of lower wage manufacturing jobs, even if some of the low-life's aren't employable, I imagine alot of their family did have some sort of steady income in the past to keep everyone from getting too desperate. Now many families don't have any jobs so I guess its onto petty crime to get your drugs...

I understand OVERKILL. I was just jerking your chain a bit. But I am defensive, but I ride a 50cc scooter quite a bit....I bought it because of no license, and I still drive it because of the fuel economy. Plus, I got a WAD of $$$$ into it, so the gas savings helps me to justify the amount of money I sunk into it.

I work with alcohoilcs and drug addicts every day. Let me tell you, people like me, the ones who have actually turned their lives around and become a productive member of society again, are fairlyi rare. I get so frustrated at some of these sicko's sometimes. But working with them keeps me sober, so I can't really complain too much for too long.

Thanks Toneydoc. It was a lot of fun building. And it's a blast to drive. If I'm in Chicago or Indianapolis, I get more looks, attention, and people surrounding that scooter than my buddy does around his Ferrari. Honest.

But you are aware that you are the exception. I mean, come on, you are BITOG'er, that in itself means that you are unique

And of course the fact that you've mod'ed your scooter speaks volumes by itself, LOL! I wasn't targeting people like you with my comments, only those who fit the description I tried to outline as best as I could as to their lifestyle choices and their impact on my town.

I think the choices that the city makes, the rules they choose to enforce and the things they let slide ultimately are what encourage or discourage the influx of this type of individual into cities like this. The methadone clinics, the increase in geared-to-income housing and government housing....etc.

One was trying to start stuff with me when he was buzzing away on the wrong side of the street and I yelled at him to stay on his side of the street. He yellled and got confrontational and tried to follow me. Well, I stopped in the middle of the street and threw my car in reverse(this was in North Oakland, CA, I usually ride my bike there but I did a pre-BBQ Costco run) and slowly made the gesture I was going to run him over in reverse. He got the message and I called the police to keep a eye out.

Ah the DUI special, around here the kids also discovered them.

I really wish my state would just treat them like motorcycles and be done with it.

The pocket bikes are popular in the ghetto's, they send out like a dozen and a couple are drug mules. Cops can't chase them all.

I just love riding mine around town. My 49cc Yamaha was cheap to buy used, 110+ mpg, enough storage for a shopping bag or two, turn-key reliable, and all I need here is a driver's license and liability insurance. I'm sorry to hear about the stigma, but to be honest this state has an appalling track record for drunk drivers...(especially repeat offenders)

These?
350%20watt%20Electric%20Scooter-2.jpg

They were popular here about 10 years ago. They only last about 15 minutes before they completely self destruct.
The chain is smaller than a bicycle chain and the wiring was done with components made of pot metal and compressed garbage.

My sister had a Honda Elite 50 2-cycle scooter. We de-restricted the exhaust and worked a little with the variator. It's top speed went from 35mph to.....ummmm... gas gauge.

I don't know. It ran out of speedometer. It is [darn] scary going something like 45-50mph on tiny 10" tires and if you do go down, you're crashing out on a little pink scooter. Not a manly way to buy it.

In nevada the 49cc is the crack head special.you can get a brand spanking new one of them for $450. If its under 50cc in our state you dont need a license or INSURANCE for the crackped.

If you live anywhere near a large college campus, you'll see a lot of them. I could see them as viable transportation for short distances. Last time I was in Key West, which was years ago, mopeds were popular for getting around.

The Honda Ruckus and Metropolitan actually looks kind of fun. My mom used to ride a Honda Cub before she got her license and I remember how fun it was when she would pick me up from school in it. That thing could have easily done 45 mph.
