So I am attempting to get a new windshield washer reservoir for my '04 Xterra. It has a small crack in it from a fender bender and the little electric motors went out after several years of holding about 1/2 of what the tank's capacity should be.

I ordered from Courtesy Nissan of Richardson Texas, being the closest stealership, last weekend.
They told me they would have the part in Wed 23rd Feb, which was my 30th Birthday.
I figured it would be a good day to reassemble the front 1/2 of the Xterra.

I called up on the 23rd of Feb, and they had lost my order, couldn't find record of it, and I never wrote down the confirmation # or who I was working with.
Since the order never hit my credit card I ordered another one.
This time it would be in Saturday.
I even gave them the VIN # of my vehicle.

I went in today to pick it up. Different color plastics was the first hint.
Drove home, attempted to fit it to the Xterra... it did not fit. All the plastic fittings were a 1/2 off of where the older part had them.

Drove back up to "Courtesy" Nissan with the old and new part to show them... they ordered the right part this time... suppposedly.

It will be Wednesday, 2nd March before they can get the part.
I have never had to order a part 4 times.

BTW, Their Parts department couldn't find their caboose with both hands and a flashlight. The teenie boppers working their counters are too clumsy to bus tables and I wouldn't trust them to sweep floors much less run the parts counter. Parts all over the place, (there were a bunch of bearings sitting out on the table getting in their way they just pushed them out of the way instead of restocking them) and the rediclious thing is that most of the parts are plastic/chrome 'bling' that does nothing but look fancy.

I like the 2004 Xterra, but if this is the way that Courtesy Nissan does business I will make sure that this is the last transaction I ever do with them.

How come the Ford and Chevy dealerships I have worked with seem so much more friendly?
Is this what "customer service" has devolved into?

I think so,for the most part.

Lucky for me, the Nissan dealer here in MI where I bought my car from is friendly, competent, and really knows what "customer service" means. But I had an experience similar to yours with the local Saturn dealer before they closed. They were going to put Dexron VI in my VUE which has a Honda transmission and calls for Z1. They didn't even know what Z1 was.

I've learned it's best to take as many incompetent people out of the equation as I can. So, I reasearch P/N's on my own and order the exact P/N I come up with off the 'net. It's worked for me except for the most obscure OEM parts, then I'm at the mercy of the dealer parts dept.

Yup. "If you want something done right, do it yourself." Life in the world of "we hire whoever will work cheapest."

Or try Ebay:

Unfortunately, you're better off finding it yourself on the Internet, and it usually seems cheaper there, too. The dealer employees seem aggravated when you refer to their place of employment as a "stealership"-but if the shoe fits...

I'm sure that customer service quality varies from dealer to dealer.

haha no offense to the Chevy or Ford dealerships you mentioned being always friendlier...but maybe they need customers :]

just kidding.

I agree with internet parts ordering though. It's a much better way to go for piece of mind and your wallet too.

I use Courtesy but over the Internet. I pick a part number off of their schematics and order it. On some Nissan parts, they are almost 70% LESS than my local dealers!!

I also browse Courtesy Parts exploded views and get parts from my local Nissan dealer (at least I have thus far), since shipping is about $10 for anything. If it's cheaper from Courtesy, the shipping offsets most of the difference. I'd rather get it from my local Nissan dealer in that case. I haven't needed to buy anything terribly large or expensive yet though, so that may change.

I use to order parts from them all the time when I had my 05 Sentra and 07 Altima. I never had a problem. Maybe they have new employee's now?

Ironically, typically these are the guys who post on internet forums (all manufacturers, not just Nissan) as though they are "experts" because they "work for Nissan".

Exactly!

Yep.

last time i went to a dealership ,it was a dodge dealership.i remember the parts manager working there in the 80's.i asked him about a carter bbd carb for an 86 pickup.he replied "what's a bbd?""can you give me a part number?"i slowly backed away from the counter and left.

If someone walked in now asking me about a carb I would have no idea where to start looking it up. Not because I dont know, its because we dont do carbs. Besides the majority of the carbs are obsolete or so expensive compared to Summit Racing it isnt worth it to look them up. On Fords if you don't have the tag off the carb with the part number its not even worth trying.

That is what I do too. Then, since I'm local, I just drive down and pick it up to save shipping costs.

I've never dealt with them face to face, but I can see where that may be a problem!

They ordered me a new part that would be there Wed.
Well it is Friday. I went down there and...

WRONG PART.

They had me down for a 2001. Where they got that I have no idea I have a 2004.

They Promised that they will have the correct part by 8 am tomorrow morning.

If not I am getting a refund and starting from square one.

Regardless I will NEVER do business with Courtesy Nissan again.
Period. No Exceptions. End of Story.

7 trips down there for a $113 part.
Thank God it isn't something complicated.

I know my local Toyota dealers parts department wants the VIN every time I order from them. This always ensures I get the parts applicable to my model year.

Surprised the Nissan parts monkeys are not that squared away also.

I was at a Chevy dealer in the 1970's and asked for a throttle cable bracket for an LT-1 350. Same doofus deer-in-the-headlights expression.
Moron.
