Countertop Reverse Osmosis System

Do these work? Are they true reverse osmosis? They plug into an electrical outlet, they must have an internal pump to make the menbrane work.
A friend of mine wants to buy one.

It would also need a drain line for the flush water. Or at least a waste water reservoir.

Looking closer, it probably just recycles the water to the supply tank, which eventually gets dumped out. I can see that working just fine.

I have had the undersink version with a filtered water tap (mounted in the hole where the old separate sink sprayer was)
for over 5 years.. best thing I ever bought for the house.
